Self-centering hinge for micro actuator

I was wondering what the best lightweight material to use for hinges on a 1/16" thick balsa rudder is. My hinges work now but when not being engaged by the actuator it's kind of floppy.

3.5" floppy disk material (mylar) is self centering, but is very low resistance if you use multiple thin strips.

vhs tape is the same mterial as floppy discs, but thinner and already comes in a usable form.... I used to use it, but now I use only vhs tape, easier to work with.
just slit in the parts u want to connect, apply foam safe ca, put in one piece of tape, leave a gap of 1-3mm and let it cure between some books.
I really came to love vhs lately, one 90ties porno last for a life time of hinging material

the floppy disk material is better for actuators than vhs tape, the vhs tape would be too loose. the tape would work better for servo models.

have to admit, I only have two actuator models..... but on both of them the tape does a good job, but I hinge the whole surface instead of strips. in fact it makes a nice click when centering...

No question - floppy disk material. The ability to vary the centering force by the width of your hinges is perfect.

Thanks for the ideas. How would I go about using a magnet to provide centering?

Also, is there a way to make an actuator stronger without making a new bigger one? Maybe making the magnet bigger?

People use to use short lengths of rubber band for this.

The little magnet pulls the actuator to the centered position when there is no input to the coil.
