I also forgot to say that when I put my wattmeter on with 5S I got right at 60A; so no headroom and putting quite a bit of stress on the ESC and motor. I did do a static balance on the impeller.

Dont worry it has a bit of a high burst amp wise so dont be alarmed....plus the amp draw will unload a bit in the air so you should be at around 56 to 57 amps constant..the ESC WILL BE OK...flew mine today the entire flight wide open ,unlimited verticle to high speed dives....shes awsome! Give her a GO on 5s!

I'm flying my Meteor on a 5s 4000 30c Sky Lipo and was able to fly for 9 minutes and only put around 2900 back into my pack. (New battery, only 4 cycles). This jet was made for 5S! Battery was barely warm. That has been by far my longest EDF flight to date.

Yes. Wattmeter readings were 1100 watts @ 58 amps.

Well my meteor did its first flight on 5S on a whim today. Flew on a 5S 3300 40C pack. Flight was 4 minutes and the pack was only down to about 47% of its capacity. This was flying mostly WOT the whole flight. All I can say is my old tired 4S packs are heading for the bin and new 5S ones will be replacing them.

For those interested and do not know yes my Meteor is totally bone stock.

Is there any advantage to a 40C battery over a 30C when you are at 3000 mah+? Doing the math, the amperage is 120A vs 90A respectively. At 18.5v, that is 2200W vs 1600W, which should still be under the 1100W.

I'm looking at buying a few 5S batteries, but I was planning on 30C. What would the functional difference of 40C be?

In theory, the higher C rating should provide you with battery that can provide more power to your motor. I think the higher the C rating the lower the internal resistance is in the lipo. I kind of liken to a 2 Liter bottle of water. One would have a small opening and the other a larger openeing. If you tip the bottle upside down your still only going to pour out 2 liters of water but the bottle with the bigger opening will let more water flow out faster. Your motor will try and draw as much power as the battery will allow. Less resistance will allow your motor to draw out the power it needs and the battery wont heat up as much either.

All of the above is correct. The pack after I pulled it out of the plane was just warm vs what my 30C 4S packs are after a hard flight. The 30C packs are hot but not puffy (except the old ones). I also yesterday flew on my 30C 4S 3200's that I fly in my Venom F-86 since its grounded. Gotta say even though its 4S the plane was much lighter feeling with the same amount of power if not more than the heavier and older 3600's I normally fly it on.

As for why I flew it on the 40C's, its what a buddy of mine just happened to have on hand at the time I asked him. My personal choice for 5S packs will be 3000-3300 30C packs for the reason that the higher the C rating the heavier the pack. So although the juice might flow easier it does come at a penalty of weight. The 30C's will be more than up to the task plus I will save a bit on the C weight penalty.

Jason

P.S. The reaction of my Habu wingman was priceless when I was running rings around him .

I ordered some 5S batteries. I'm hoping I get them while its warm enough to fly.

On a side note, snhobbies has possibly the worst customer service. They absolutely refused to send me the $2 part that came broken with my meteor. I was unable to put my landing gear in because the set screw came broken inside the gear slot from the factory (no way to get it out). They accused me of breaking it in flight, which is a pretty tough stance for a $2 part (which they didn't even have). I guess they don't understand the concept of "return business".

I wish more companies were like nitroplanes/hobbypartz...
