Putting lipstick on a pig!
Brad built this several years back, his first build in over
twenty five years.
It is a scratch build, enlarged 50% of a free flight grasshopper.
Then he decided to change colors in the middle of the build,
then he decided to make it an earlier version..
It had a Thunder Tiger 36, Hot! It was so over powered
it was just barely flyable. It was flown twice. On the
second flight Brad thought is was going to stall and
powered up and pulled up. The tail hit the ground and
the tail wheel came off fouling the rudder and it turned
hard left and cart wheeled. The only damage was the
tail wheel and one strut mount. It is a tough bird. I thought
it was all over. Any way, the motor is now in an air boat
and he got it out and is going to make it electric.
We weighed all the stuff and added in the motor and esc
and it should be just under three pounds AUW. Over
a pound lighter than original. It had all standard servos
before and now it will have HS-81's.
Tail wheel fix. He recovered it after it was done and the
covering job wasn't that great. It is not damaged so we
are going to go with what we have.
Day one BTW 10/23/2009
This is one plane before the Cub. Note the missing rear window, and
the back, top of the fuselage is flat. It does not have the bungees. on the
bottom, they are on the top.
The battery will be under the wing, with the connection on
the out side. Don't want to butcher it anymore that we have

Nice looking model, I see no pig in the pictures. The only thing that distracts from it's looks is the glow engine. A 300W electric conversion should make it look and fly a lot better. Save the .35 for something fast...... and save the lipstick for it's intended purpose!

It flew like a pig. It is getting a 550w Powerup 15 Sport.
The 36 went in an air boat.

kind of plane. We got the hinge material and wheels today.
Make some wood parts and start putting it back together.
It falls under the "what if" category.

Did the watt test tonight.
Powerup Sport 15, HURC 40a ESC. 3s, 2000mah, 11X7 APC slim.
300W! 25A! WOT! We can use a 13" prop with lots of room, the 11
looks good. We have a 12/6 wood we may check out.

Got it all together, put the heavier wheels back on it to help the CoG.
Making the battery box now. Looks like the AUW will be just under
Recover one landing gear strut.

Brad and I just did 18.
All that is left is to cut a hole in the side window to get to the
battery connection. CoG is perfect, ended up at 3lbs even.
The glow motor was mounted on wood rails and the cowl was
balsa built up around them. After much looking, thinking, talking.
he made the decision to just cut the whole thing off and start over.
BTW, the struts are functional.
