Aerodromerc Fokker D.VIII/E.V prototype

This one I got together with my Albatros D.II, and with bad weather not allowing to maiden my Nieuport Triplane I just got started here. It's a real lot of balsa Kurt has sent me and I am sure this one will be a winner! The ribs look really cool and I have actually fallen in love with this thick wing! The only thing I am still looking for is a cool color scheme. I am not too keen on the bumble bee so I'd prefer something with lozenge, but preferably nothing with the wing just in khaki. The D.VIII done by fiddlersgreen is nice, but I would like more information whether it's genuine and more on the details knowing that their color schemes are sometimes way off.

OK, here is the left wing panel. That's a 20% chord in the middle. Such a nice wing design would deserve at least a triplane

Here are the parts supplied for the right wing panel (w.o. the aileron). Just look at those gorgeous ribs!

Subscribed. One of my favorites. Love the fat wing.

Yes, very nice looking Edi. You must be running out of hangar space by now with all those airplanes we've watched you build over the past few months!

Frank, you are absolutely right here - and I haven't even done a build thread for all of them. But when I look at your new avatar this might be a known problem for you And as long as my wife doesn't complain I just keep building

Well, here are a few more pics.

edi, If I can give you a heads-up on the wing, I noticed the 2 wedge shaped parts that go on the center wing panel (R-13's) are drastically undersized and need to be recut. I don't know, however, Kurt may have corrected this already with your kit. I'll be keeping a close watch on this one. Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greg

The second in a row! I guess I'm getting on, mate But don't worry, the next one will definitely have much more wings.

OK, at least it's a thick and bulky wing, the biggest one-piece wing I've ever built and in span only second to two others The panels are joined by an additional spar with ply braces. The sheeting is scarfed. I prefer to glue on the leading edge first, sand it right down to the ribs and only then add the sheeting. That way it is easier to get it right because it needn't be a tight fit between LE and spars.

Is this wing fully sheeted for the scale effect or only partially sheeted for weight savings? Spectacularly thick isn't it?

Only the nose is sheeted. Yes, the wing is so cool, it would be nice to have more than one. A Fokker V-1 would be nice, or something with more wings ...
