Virus 400 (ailerons)

I just can't keep from modifying and just plain fooling around so I mounted a Multiplex 480 motor (NOTICE!!! This is a longer speed 400 with plain bearing and a magnet strap, not the Graupner speed 480 with BB which is a completely different motor!) I used this motor because it has more torque and fits right into the gear drive with no mods. I used a 11 x 7 APC slow flyer prop.

Wow! The performance was amazing! I used a 1400 mah battery from a Zagi 400X and got almost 15 minutes of flight time. Very smooth and aerobatic.

If anyone has a speed 400 with ailerons and wants to move up in power, I will be offering this upgrade at a very low price of $14.00. This includes the prop, motor and mounted pinion gear. It is a quick replacement with a serious increase in power.

Hi Sal-

I have a grudge against you. You sold me my first e-plane a little over a year ago. I wanted a Wingo, but you "suggested" that I get a Dragonfly. Well the thing was so easy to fly and rugged on the occasional dumb stick that now I'm hooked. Here I am year and three planes latter! Hence the origin of my grudge, this hobby is costing me lots of time and money. Couldn't you have just sold me something that was woefully inadequate so I could have crashed it a few time, been frustrated, and just given up?

You've got me intrigued with the 400A (especially with the unofficial ezone sale). What I'd like to know is what would you (or anyone else who has one) would recommend as the minimum flying area. I have three fields to choose from: a school soccer field, a large baseball field, and a high school athletic field (football and soccer fields with tennis courts to one side). Obviously the large field is twice as likely to be in use, so I really want to know if the others are enough. I've successfully flown my zagi 400X in both fields, but there is a lot of turning!

thanks

Hi Sal,
What is the weight difference between the two motors?

You could fly out of all 3 fields!
I fly out of my larger than normal Cul De Sac.

The motor weighs in at 18 gms heavier than a regular Speed 400 motor.

Yes, you could use the same motor on a Zagi 400. or 400X. Also works well in the Pico Combat and Twinjet or Twinstar
