To use the button, Ieave the recorder off, push the button (and it should stay in), the unit should turn on and start recording. When done press the button again (it should pop out) and the recording will stop and the unit turn off.

I've never tried to use the vibration (warning?). It seems having the recording sitting in my ground station and vibrating would be a waste...the vibration is more like if you're holding it when it vibrates.

I Chucked a huge SD card in it, powered off my groundstation at was out 12 hours flying at various locations through the day ....
Just press the button at the start of the flight and forget about it. No worries about stopping with static, storage or tapes running out.

Quality is awesome too. Raw vid is even better than this...

I like the quality from this recorder. Is it possibly to supply it from a lipo instead of using the internal battery ?

It uses a replacable 3.7 v lipo inside. Mine came with a spare - not sure if thats normal.

Or can use an external 5v supply.
My GS is 3s 8000Mah with an internal BEC that supplies a couple of 5v outputs. So made up an cable to run it off as well out all day. It doubles up and acts as a charger for the internal.

Ya, BEV, multiwiicopter, and fpv-japan recorders are all variations on a theme.
All the same hardware, and similar if not totally cloned firmware. Some differences in
options (cables, batteries, quality control.. etc). The BEV recorder has it's own thread.

Do the fpv Japan bev rc or any of the better dvrs offer .mov or .mp4 or any Mac comparable file outputs?

I think they all use either .asf or .avi containers with XviD codec.
There are ways to make MACs understand that, but not natively.

A few questions on the fpv Japan recorder

Does the live video out prevent blue screen on external displays?
Is there a noticable lag?
Does it alter/crop the video?

Thanks Mike - its the older pixim dx201. Seems to be a nice combi between the two.
