7.4 volt 1600mah li-on battery for aerohawk

will a 7.4volt li-on battery be able to replace the 8.4volt stock nimh battery. i know that the 1600 mah will make the flights longer but, will the 7.4volts be enough power for the heli. i am running stock tail motor and the 29 bb motor. here is the battery link if you want to see it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5903323557
thanks

what's the C rating for the pack ? You will need to be able to run atleat 6amps continous to be safe, which means the pack must be rated for atleast 3-4C. At 1600mah you're probably safe, but just thought I should check. Some cell phone and laptop batteries have high mah but low C rating and would not suit e-flight.

The 7.4 issue however is not an issue. Lots of people, including myself get great performance from a 2s 7.4volt pack. At 1600mah, you're looking at 20-30 minute flights. Make sure you get heatsinks and provide cooling for your mixer. I fried my motor in 3 days and mixer in 2 weeks because I left everything stock, yet flew for 20 or so minutes.

it is a li ion, not a lipo so can not hadle sudden bursts as well, for $65 shiped you are better off getting a hobbico mkII quick charger for $50 (hellihobby.com) and a 1200 e teck i think for $23(helihobby as well), totla $73 which is only $8 more and you get a proper charger

just to warn you the charger adaptor looks like a 300mHa jobbie so you would be looking at 5 hour charge times

just got a hobbico mkII my self, going to go to lipo soon

I think you'll cook li-ions at that amp draw, good ips drive battery at 2-3 amps max.

I have a 2C 1500 Kokam Li-Poly, it just flew almost 15 minutes in the hover! I'm am as pleased with this setup then ever, It only took me a month to work it out. I would stay away from Li-Ion......and stick with what works, you will save money, and be happier.....the Li-Poly is the way to go.....I was getting 3 to 4 minutes on the Birdseeds......This battery is incredible!
