GoPro Hero4 Release Date - March 2015

Pushed back from October 2014.

The much anticipated Hero4 release is within sight

Although nothing official has come from GoPro, the web is swirling with specifications and speculations on a definitive release date of the Hero4. Originally noted as being released on October of this year, more info has surfaced suggesting a release date of March 2015.

With the advent of the new SoC Ambarella A9 chip (dual A9 ARM Core CortexTM-A9 processor 1GHz with FPU accelerator), the Hero4 can shoot 1080p at 120fps, and 720p at a whopping 240fps for ultra buttery-smooth slow motion video. Standard on the Hero4 is an updated 13 megapixel photosensor and new lens that's optimized for shooting in dark conditions. Add in electronic image stabilization, and you have a GoPro camera that's worthy of professional video shoots.

Expect the price to be around the $340 benchmark. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

The title of this post suggests that this is a fact but then you say "nothing official has come from GoPro, the web is swirling with specifications and speculations on a definitive release date of the Hero4."
So this is really just another unsupported rumor...

I would still expect an October release, I read a similar article last year saying the Hero3+ would be out in the spring of 2014 then was released in October 2013, plus I can't image gopro missing out on the Christmas shoppers.

Good, now that means the Hero3 prices will drop. I have a GoPro Hero2 which works fine of course, but I'm "stuck" with that fisheye lens when shooting 720p 60fps. Looks like more capability for the proposed $340 than the Black has at $399.

I have never bought a Hero, of any kind, because of the fisheye lens.

Thanks to the Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro GoPro preset, a click of the mouse removes the fisheye (barrel distortion) from photos and video. It works extremely well.

Hope it has lens options. I don’t like the fisheye look for everything – I just like to have options. If they don’t have better optics I will never get another one. After looking at FPV videos I think that a 3.6mm lens would be just right. I have never been happy with the picture quality of my 3 plus.

The free editing software, Cineform, from GoPro removes the fisheye.

Lots of ways to remove "fisheye" including changing the FOV setting...

Unfortunately, the FOV settings are electronic and only zoom in on the image, removing the distortion at the expense of image quality.

The release was already pushed back from June of this year to October and now March. I hope this means that Gopro is taking their time making the camera perfect rather than rush releasing like the Hero 3.

Matt: are you talking about the AVCHD project presets?
I've yet to use AVCHD, but probably should be for GoPro, from what I can tell so far.
