The current setting of the elevator seems pretty tame, if anything it could probably use more gain on that, I would rather be low on gain then high on it :P

Best I can do really is get it in the air with rudder disconnected from AP and see how it handles...

Follow chronologically.

1.) Download the firmware upgrade rar file from the website.
2.) Login into ADMINISTRATOR in win 7
3.) Unzip all files into a folder on desktop
4.) Now plug the USB cable in the USB slot.
5.) Ensure you take the red wire OFF the connector. You dont want to power your 31AP with USB.
6.) Open the upgrade program and choose the correct port. (At this time the 31AP sould not be connected.)
7.) Click "Open Port". this should change the button to "Close port". This confirms that the port is now open.
8.) Disconnect any DATA MODEMS if you have installed. Servos and RC Rx can stay connected.
8.) Now connect the USB cable (without the red wire) to the 31AP on the UART port. 31AP should NOT be powered at this time.
9.) Now power the 31AP through a separate BEC. (you may have servos connected... doesnt matter...)
10. The moment you power on the 31AP, you will see "Connect Success" in the upgrade program.
11.) Upload the firmware as directed.
12.) Once you get the message "Firmware upgrade success" or something like that.... DO NOT DISCONNECT ANYTHING IMMEDIATELY.
13.) Wait for atleast a minute.
14.) Then switch off the power supply to 31AP first.
15.) Remove the usb cable from the AP.
16.) Close the port and remove the USB cable from the computer.
17.) Then recheck for version by following the same protocol from step 4.

Walla... you should have the new firmware....

Cheers !!!
I have just used your guide, and it will just not be upgraded.
The strange thing is I have upgraded from 1.11 to 1.12 recently.

Everything seems to be ok, and I get Firmware upgrade success. Wait for more than 1 min, and disconnect battery.

Every time i check it is still 1.12.
Have done this upgrade on 2 computers, and several USB ports with correct drivers.

What could I possible do now?

you can reduce the throws available mechanically by moving the control rod closer to the servo shaft at the servo end... and farther away from the servo horn at the aileron / elevator / rudder end...

Have you flown much RC before? please don't take that rudely I am just asking.

for some reason i have never had the version correctly update on my 30A either but I KNOW it worked cause I was chaning from quad stabilizer to camera stabilizer to plane stabilizer etc.

my gut feeling says that if it claims "sucess" then it is done but they have not fixed the header in there which tells you what the version is.

I have 2 of the FY31AP at the moment, and I tried to upgrade both. One of them is 1.11, and tried to upgrade to 1.12, (like I did the first time) but still it will not upgrade.
Have also tried 2 different USB cables.
Kind of frustrated here..

Yes I have flown I didn't think about it, but yes you are right, but like I said elevator gain is pretty tame looking, so I don't think it will be a problem, and aileron pot turns just fine. Guess I am going to go rudderless, which is fine I guess, cause my plane bank and yanks just fine with no ill issues.

I wanted to get stabilization recorded good, but today it was just too turbulent windy rocking the plane all over the place so I just ended up flying manually. Hopefully tomorrow the wind will be less turbulent so I can get it dialed in. I can't FPV anyway until I get a new connector for my camera.

Woo! after messing with the rudder pot I managed to get it to react properly!!! Now all control surfaces respond properly, though rudder's gain is very very low, almost hardly reacts even to a hard violent yaw, but that is ok cause my plane is a bit rudder sensitive anyway!

Only thing left is that because elevator is still reversed, I have to mount the AP facing backwards, but I don't for see this causing any problems, or maybe it will with RTH?? I hadn't thought of that...

The arrow must always point at the nose of the plane.
From the manual:

Servo Direction: The dials also control the direction of your servo
movement. Turning it clockwise or counter clockwise from 12
O’clock will change the direction of your servos during stabilized
flight against tilting, roll and yaw.

Yes I know this, BUT as the last 20 posts are about, my elevator pot is STUCK and STRIPPED, I CANNOT reverse it, only way to get controls to stabilize properly is to have the AP facing the tail... I know this will work just fine for stabilization, and should work fine for circling, but the question is will it throw off RTH? I don't know if the AP uses it's own magnets for cardinal direction, or just uses GPS NMEA data to calculate direction, if it does that it would not matter what direction the unit is facing, however with a magnetic composs it could very well matter...

I just remembered there is an orientation setting in the GCS software... I am setting it to say the AP is facing backwards! All should work fine... Plus there are a lot of other settings in here too.

I am not so sure it is going to work with the heading option in GCS, as the angle ladder on the GCS shows opposite of what it should be...and changing the directional that it's mounted doesn't seem to solve any problems.
