C G issues.....
OK, so I slapped my battery in and Maiden-ed this little guy. I could tell it was pretty tail heavy from the start. I input some down trim and this helped a little, but not near enough....Out of a turn it just wanted to climb and climb and climb.....It did handle the 5 - 8 mph wind pretty well.....So, I brought it in and decided to try it with the landing gear on. The gear is a little forward of the specified CG. Same issue...flew it for a while still trying to get a good feel. I had a fairly slow speed power-off crash into the ground. Absolutely no ding on the spinner, but it broke the left wing off in half!
So, I CAed it back on and looks OK.. So I decided to check my CG, and sure enough, it balances back on around 25-26 mm back from the leading edge. Not sure why so peoples fly OK. Like some others, any of you that have had your plane fly great right out of the box.....would really like to know what your CG is at! |

The AS3X should allow for aft CG. Is it climbing power on but nosing over when gliding?

Flew a battery through CC before flying Spit. 7-10 MPH breeze to get good comparison.
CC flies fine a 1/2 throttle, Spit needs full throttle most of the time. CC is over powered Spit is fine but could use a tad more for fighting wind. Spit is still fun to fly just need to work a bit harder on sticks. Tim |

Hoping it comes in today, If it does I can get it put in the bird and probably fly tomorrow night.
Any plane with climb going into a headwind, the extra wind speed over the wind generates more lift. This plane is a blast! I flew three batteries last night in some wind above 10mph with gusts above that. I will say to get this bird turned RUDDER is a must in this much wind. Tipping the wings with ailerons will allow the wind to push the bird over. Easily my favorite 1S plane to date. |

1 s as3x ?
So after a week of dozens of great Spitfire flights I got to thinking...
How would the 1 S AS3X brick do in my Champ??? I removed the brick from the Spit. Installed it in my Champ. Checked the controll surfaces. (had to reverse the rubber) Everything was set to go...so I thought. I armed the ESC and checked the function of the AS3X and much to my surprise the gyro was reverse of what it should be. In the Spit the brick is mounted on it's side, in the Champ I laid it down. So the question is. Is the AS3X system programed for how the board will be oriented in the plane??? |

Yes!
You will need a programing cable to set it up properly... Easiest thing to do is to mount it as per the Spitfire. Have it vertical and swap the pushrod to the other side of the rudder. Reversing it could result in backwards AS3X commands... |
