Foiling RC Keelboat/ Q23 fullsize

Many years ago I predicted that this was feasible and Hugh Welbourn and the Team at Quant boats has proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt with the new Quant 23. The boat is a foiling keelboat-the first such fullsize boat in history!
For an RC forum the significance of this is that a RC monohull keelboat foiler can be designed that will be self-righting! Talk about having your cake and eating it too......
Here's a pdf on the Quant 23-be sure to check this out-lots of info- and some pictures-hope it inspires some designer/builders fertile imaginations:

Rule 1--- Put up hundreds of Internet posts with pictures of boats not designed or built by class members.

Rule 2--Create many catchy names for parts of non existent boat. Use caps often

Rule 3--Post many formulas to demonstrate superior boat performance, mention Dr. Bradfield.

Rule 4--More internet posts, discuss class rules, fight with other posters,

Rule 5--find old boat, repaint and rename as class prototype.

Rule 6--suck in at least one person who doesn't know better who tries to actually build something

Rule 7-Proclaim success and move on to next fictional project

Company needs to invest in a good spell checking software. Might want to hire an English major for better grammar.

Just an opinion

Rule 1---If it's a potential new class with features not found on one single current class diss it constantly,

Rule 2-- Make up catchy Rules ridiculing features not found on current classes ,

Rule 3--Denigrate potential performance and attempt to smear contributions by
pioneers in advanced sailing yacht design and development,

Rule 4--Post negative trash but do not contribute to any technical discussion(whats that?) ,

Rule 5--Disregard the potential of older boats using modern technology,

Rule 6--Suck in at least one person who is is equally bereft of any technical knowledge of modern high speed yacht design,

Rule 7-Proclaim failure and move on to attack other proposals for advanced sailboat design and development. Create more rules aimed at stifling deviant high performance class development.

Foiling Keelboat

Nice article from Australia on the boat-may help to give insight into the idea behind the fullsize boat: http://www.mysailing.com.au/news/dyn...ing%20keelboat

seen their system of DSS I think it is a good system it seems and logical... one of those. hum why didn't I think of this earlier... new design ORMA 60 coming out for the Vendee globe already use similar foils adding to their already massive power... just a matter of weeks really before we see one of them foiling ... at this pace who's boat is still not foiling?

I might add these on my IOM restoration project and say nothing to nobody! who will notice as it will in the hull ashore and since pretty much everyone use fancy Tx with a zillion channels no one will notice me flipping one to deploy it to port or starboard...

they may look at it strangely when all the IOM will heel and mine will remain relatively flat... hum didn't think of that... Defo a BP and V9 beater...

Foiling Keelboat

Using Welbourns concept would allow foils that require no external altitude control and would be simple to make easily removable. Substantial extra righting moment, too.
