Flew the SR71 yesterday, great takeoff, flight was going well, but just before the timer went off I got a low voltage hit, motors started sagging...called emergency landing, made a very short turn around to come in over the runway upwind.....it was going to over-run the runway so I reduced what little power I had and it immediately started the nose high stall....pushed in some down elevator, came back up on the power......

IT DID THE PERTTIEST SUMMERSAULT AND BACK FLIP YOU HAVE EVERY SEEN and then did a plop down 3 point landing with no damage, no bent landing gear, no broken neck.....AND it is on video.

I will see if I can figure out how to upload this flight when my buddy gets the video to me...

I think I got away with something here......new aerobatic landing perhaps.... ;-))

Here a link to the video of RCS's miraculous landing. I scored the back flip a 9.5 but probably should have given a 10 for style.

SR71 Miraculous Landing 7 28 15 (1 min 14 sec)

Well if it wasn't it should have been. It sure saved me a bunch of repair work. I was happy my friend, Ron Tinchure ( Laserdude ) was there to get a pretty good video of it...

The battery only registered 7% left ....that is cutting it a bit fine! After throwing it into the fridge and cooling it down, it tested again at 28% capacity. Think I had better check the IR reading with a meter. I would bet a cell is going kaput in the IR area even tho the voltage/ balance readings seem to be ok.

I am wondering if it's possible to fly this bird on 3 cell to keep the weight down but still use say 4800Kv or higher motors to keep her grooving in the power department?
My case being my Dynam A-10 and my GWS ME-262 both are twins , both use a 2200 mha 35c battery and both get about 4 minutes of fly time.. The SR-71 is lighter than the Dynam A-10 so I am thinking lighter is better.. thoughts anybody?

But I am not talking about using twin 3 cell, just a single battery. like i said before my Dynam A-10 used a single 2200 3s 35c battery and so does my GWS ME-262(4300kv) the ME-262 is lighter than my A-10 and my A-10 is heavier than my SR-71..

OK I tried a new comb for battery, A Zippy 2700 60c and after the flight the battery was barely warm to my surprise. it's roughly the same size as the 2650 Turnigy Nanotech battery I use which works fine but I am glad I found another battery to fit this bird.. Today here in Southern Ohio it's been windy with 9-14 mph winds. I was lucky to hit the winds at 5mph earlier but two flights on the Blackbird and I am happy.

What, no High Alpha, no Stall Turns??

Nice flight! Even threw a roll in there! It's about time for me to bring mine down from the garage ceiling...Dust her off and get her in the air! Good job!

Thanks Aros for the kind comments
Here is the list of mod I can recall now
Here is wingtip of SR-71 from online: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrccos/137689714
It seems the good amount of wingtwist serves as washout, help stabilizing the bird in flight, less vulnerable to tip stall.
One more thing: thrust tube added. The exhaust diameter is around 52mm, a little too small but seems working alright for this current setup.
Also I glued several strips of carbon fiber (~10 inches each) along the panel lines, from the joint between the fuse and wing, to near the canopy.
19 g/m2 fiberglass on most of the upper fuse and part of underside, for less hangar rash.
