Build Log
Tiira T10 from K.Kuosma

Hello Guys.
Amazed by known design of Kauko Kuosma, I decided to for T-10 model with classic gull wings and convert it for electric motor.
I found 2 plans on the web (Gullwing + original) and started to make drawings in AI for lasercutting service.
Unfortunately my laser service wanted too much for cutting all parts so I started to make it in a classic way. Just week ago I've finished all the frames, pin it to the board and started to make shape.
This is what I have today with the fuselage off the board and part of it covered by balsa sheets.

Gorgeous!

Great project! I have drooled over Kuosma's designs for many years; there is some great original footage around of his free-flight seaplanes as well.
Enjoy the build,
PeteM

Kauko Kuosma Gull T10

Hello szmyk,

That looks like an excellent build of the T10, I am a big fan of Mr Kuosma's designs. I found a web directory posted by his son, to show the evolution and design of these beautiful free flight and very early radio controlled flyingboats.

Keep up the great work, will you be fitting modern radio gear, or go with the original clockwork and rubber escapements from 50 years ago?

Here, for information is the link to the video page, converted from 8mm cine film, absolutely stunning, circa 1963!

Look at Salakka.wmv for the overall impression.

Sorry to divert slightly,

regards to all

Al

Thank you for the info about the planes.
I was looking for T17 drawings actually, but found only the pictures of this plane.
It will be modern RC system with ailerons, rudder and elevator, electric motor with 3 blade propeller i guess..
I was working on the drawings and change some bits, so the final drawing is more accurate.
Regards.
Mariusz

Hello guys.
I'm slowly covering the fuselage but not closing it to gave access.
Today I've almost finished the linkage to both sides of the elevator.
Still thinking about the rudder connection...

Hello Guys.
Almost all fuselage is covered except some access I will need later.
I've finished linkage to the elevator, elevator itself and make hatch in the front of the fuselage (there's a plenty of room in there for radio and battery).
Now I'm just thinking if will be better to glass cloth all fuselage or just the bottom part..? What do you think?

Hi szmyk,

Very nice work there, I like your one into two solution for the elevators, I would go for light weight glass and epoxy for the hull if you can spare the weight? Or tissue paper and WBPU varnish, cheaper and lighter?

Cheers mate,

regards Al

Thanks Al.
I've fiber-glassed the skid on the fuselage and floats.
The elevator is waiting for covering and I'm slowly preparing for the most difficult part -the wings. To make this specific gull shape, the main spars were bent with hot water instead of cutting the strips, it should improve overall strength of the wing.
I will post some more pictures soon.
Mariusz

She's a beauty Marius. I'll be following this one for sure.

I'm looking hard at the t16. So elegant and looks like it would adapt well to modern equipment and techniques. The undercamberd airfoil is something I haven't tried yet though.
