adding leds

This may be the weeping place to ask but here goes. I would like to add some Leds to my plane but unsure hour to power them. Can I hook to say up to an aux channel and run of the receiver so I can switch on and off as needed. I'm pretty good at electronics but new to the rc planes. Or do I have to go some other route. I'm using a 11.1lipo by the way. Thanks for any input. Jesse

Don't run run gadgets and gimmicks from something that important as receiver/servo power.

Prettig weekend Ron

Ron van Sommeren's comment is well-advised, however, it depends on what you're trying to power.

A couple nav light LEDs don't draw enough power to be a factor unless you're already taxing your rx power (i.e. servo power for flaps, dual ailerons, elev, rudder, ) and you should check the total power requirement for all devices against what your ESC/BEC is putting out.

You can easily run a separate power source for the LEDs (they don't take much) and use the proper resistors to control voltage.

To operate the lights remotely you will need a receiver controlled switch (like this one from HK) and a channel to run it.

I've used both methods (rx powered nav lights on my Waco and PA-28, separate power for more intense night flight lights) without issues.

Have fun!

Yep LED's can be run from a seperate pack or even from the main pack.

I had a Slow-V with 50 lamps on it and I ran if from an old cell phone battery (1S).
Could run an easy half hour on it.

My Slow Stick pulls it's pwer from the main pack, (3S) Tied into the balance connector, for 12volt power. I do not advise using less then the 12 volt side of a 3S pack as you can pull down the cells unevenly.

Just a materr of the correct resistors for the voltage you use.

And if you don't want to buy a switch an old servo can be rigged to do the same.

If something goes wrong in that non-essential gadget, you crash.

true... but ive been running led lights from these planes without issue. y harness to throttle channel. minimal draw. works great. many flights. YMMV.
