Question
What is the orange translucent tape I see wrapped around esc's?

Seen a few pics of hotliner power trains wrapped in orange translucent tape or plastic.

What's it for? Why do I need it? Where do I get it?

Thanks

Cool, thanks.

So whats the advantage over the OE heatshrink? Do I use it in addition to the heatshrink?

Is it lighter? Withstand more heat?

Kapton may be cheaper than heat shrink. The ESC shape may not lend itself to heat shrink. Or maybe the manufacturer just didn't have any on hand and used this instead. Or maybe the ESC is expected to get hot enough that Heat Shrink will soften too much. Kapton is messier to get off, but otherwise is as good or better than Heat Shrink. I don't remember, but it may be more abrasion resistant, too.

You know what's funny is I went on to that website and went to order a roll put in my zip code and they wanted to charge me $21 for shipping well when I looked in the contact us I live about 10 minutes from there so I'm going to drive down there tomorrow and buy some if they'll sell it out the front door....... I'll see if the prices are the same maybe even ask them why they're charging me $21 just ship it half a mile

Removing the heavy OEM heatshrink from the controller and insulating it with Kapton tape instead allows for better cooling.
It also has better heat resistance, so if the controller does get hot it won't melt through the tape.

Thanks Lenny.

I owe you a 2nd thanks for the picture I lifted. I just realized that is your motor and esc in the photo I found in the energic thread.

Nicely done. Very clean assembly.
