Met a couple Masters over the weekend...

Met a couple of the hobby's finest last week- Bob Herrera and Leon Embry.

Bob is well known from several pieces published in the old Scale Ship Modeler, and from the small kit company he ran for a while, Pandora Models. With Pandora, Bob single-handedly popularized modeling of California's own Monterey Clipper fishing boats.

Leon has expanded on some of Bob's work, creating incredible animated Hicks engines to go with his big 1:6 scale Montereys through Nostalgia Engineering. The engines are in VERY limited production. I won't even bother listing his contact info... if you're one of the few who can consider owning one of these gems, you already know about him!

I'm only posting a couple pix here to give a taste, and to avoid conflicting with future articles...

So you were in LA? You never made it to Hansen. Did you get together with any of the other LA boys?

Not much different than one of these:

... oh, and that's the old price... cost of materials has gone way up...

BTW, it's animated- you can watch the rocker arms move, etc., and it has a digital recording of a real one-lunger in the display case. And not so little... the flywheel is 4" across.
