If it's the same one that comes with ZD fly stuff, it's outside area in mm- 5273 minus the motor mount area- 854 = 4423, or 6.7 in inches. 80% of that divided by 2 for the twin ducts = 2.68 That fan has lots of blade area and low pitch. It should be a good one for difficult ducting.

This whole ducted fan thing has me confused. Its not like a prop plane where I can plug in some numbers and get a pretty close idea of performance for a given airframe. Here is a link to the plane the EDF came from. Not the exact but an early version of this plane http://www.bananahobby.com/grey-f-16...1399-prd1.html Last edited by CapMike; Feb 24, 2013 at 12:13 PM.

Since it's your first edf, you should probably go for plenty of intake area, so 2in by 1.5 inches would give you 3 square inches per side for example. The plane in the link has a 6 blade 70mm fan, so different? If your not too worried about having a perfect scale airplane, you could use an oval or pinched oval exhaust at the back- sorta figure 8 on it's side, but not touching in the middle. You'd be making life much easier on yourself since you could roll it out of anything instead of having to make a fiberglass plug. Just a thought. Steve
