It's funny but at this size 0.1mm makes it very free but anything smaller and the printer sinters the pieces together. The other option, which I am trying to avoid, is separate pieces that require assembly. Most people would find these parts way to fiddly small to do it.

Looking forward to seeing the new batch arrive here John. Thanks for the help in taking advantage of the free shipping day.

I just received jj604's mail and it turns out Shapeways printed all LHS retracts. I guess they didn't check the file close enough and simply grabbed one retract and printed multiples off....

Now another 3 weeks will go by while I sort it out with Shapeways and get the other half of the set printed and sent to me.

So I'm not the only one having issues with them. I can safely say that 8 out of my last 10 orders had something wrong with them.

Kev, I saw those shrouds - you'd think the guy dusting them off would have noticed they didn't like anything near the same....

I heard back from SW. Simply put, that 0.7mm minimum thickness does not account for margin of safety.

A few of my designs were rejects even though the thickness was just over 0.7mm so I always make them 0.8mm or above for the strong white material.

A new order for the button retracts went in yesterday.

They refunded John and apologised for the error - but dodged paying shipping again thanks to the refund only method. So I have to pay 20 bucks shipping to get them here.

Good news is - another slight design change was made to avoid Johns experience of the retract not travelling the full distance in the up position. The pushrod mount was hitting the internal side wall and stopping the full retraction. A scrape of the offending wall area with an exacto knife instantly solved the problem so I adjusted the file accordingly.

Now we wait........

Hello Nitro,

I'm very interested by your excellent retracts. What is the maximum weight they could stand?
Thanks.

Hi Frank,
not sure on that yet. My plan was to scale the units up in steps to allow them to carry more weight.

e.g. current peanut size is 13mm, then 14mm and 15mm. Still very small but able to carry much more!

Hi Dave,

I'm asking that because i have in mind to build either an edf concorde with retracts, either a staggerwing beach , also with retratcts.
The beech craft would weigh around 80-120g, but the Concorde would be lighter (around 60g).
I hope you'll scale your units up soon...!

Unbelievable........

Shapeways stuffed up my new order... AGAIN!!!

My parcel arrived this morning and excitedly, I shook out my button retracts from their packet. I inspected them one after another for quality and operation, thinking "Gee! I picked up three of the same side in a row, what's the chances of that?...." Then, picking up the 4th, 5th, and 6th item revealed the whole lot are all the same ( no left and right sided retracts)!!

I even named the item "Button retract set - 3 LEFT HAND and 3 RIGHT HAND" to help them realise they are not all the same so they wouldn't assume anything like they did last time.

An unhappy email was sent to them this morning...... more wasted time.... more waiting...
