MP Jet AC 25/25-26 question

I purchased a MP Jet AC 26 25/25 brushless motor and gearbox some time ago. The gearbox is at 5:1 and has a part number of 20123. I did a search and couldnt come up with too much info. I seem to remember that MP went to an updated version of this, maybe called MK2. The questions I have...

Is anyone still using this motor/GB combo?

How do you tell the old unit from the new?

How much thrust does it produce?

Are you satisfied with it?

What prop?

Has anybody yanked the motor out and ran it direct?

I appreciate any info! Thanks.

Carnifax, check out this link:
http://www.flyingmodels.org/motortes..._25-26_mk2.htm

I've got it running on my FW-190 at the moment. I bought mine fairly cheap, so I'm not complaining too much, but this motor just hasn't met any of my expectations. I suspect cheaper motors on ebay will probably outperform this one.

Ex.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I remember paying less than $50 at the time. This was ages ago (maybe 3 years) when brushless choices were limited. Thanks for the info.

Is anyone still using this motor/GB combo? Sold mine.

How do you tell the old unit from the new? The Mk II (4100Kv) has Mk II on the label and a 3:1 gearbox.

How much thrust does it produce? With a 7x5 APC E on 3s I measured: 10.9v, 11.80A, 128W, 10560rpm, 50.0mph, 485g, 17.10oz, 3.79g/W

Are you satisfied with it? OK for a cheap motor

What prop? On 3s 7x4 APC SF, 7x5 APC E, on 2s you can run a 9x5 GWS HD at <10A.

Has anybody yanked the motor out and ran it direct? No way - 6100Kv means you'd have to use a 3" prop or less!

I appreciate any info! Thanks.
Cheers, Phil

MP Jet essentially dropped these (Hobby Lobby and others still have them, but they're not selling much) as their new "blue" and "red" outrunners perform the same task much much better, more quietly and without the lack of dependability the plastic gearboxes yielded. I believe the Mk2 versions were slight improvements on the first, but only marginal. Try this set-up you have with an APC 9x6 SF prop (yes, the slowflyer version) on a 3S LiPo -- it will be up toward the limits and need an 18A ESC, but it will perform nicely.

Contrary to Kiki's note, I think these are 5:1 geared???

Direct drive, this is the stock motor for the Alfa line of EDF jets. Most nuts like me go for something more aggressive around 5300 Kv, but the 25-26 does a fine job in these birds. Not of use in standard prop applications (maybe a 3x3) -- too much Amp draw and heat!

The MK1 (5:1 gearbox) is good on 2s with a 10x4.7 or a 9x6 prop. On 3s it overheats on just about any prop. It's a cheap motor, not overly efficient, but I cannot justify the expense of replacing it on my slow stick. It's perfect for that kind of application

Perfect, thats exactly the kind of help I was looking for! I find myself these days with motors I have collected and no home. To repay those who responded, I work in a plstics factory. We throw away a lot of plastic everyday. If any of you who responded does any thermoforming or needs clear plastic for windshields, cowls, etc., Let me know and I will make sure you get a lot of it for free. I appreciate the info and trying to give away what we throw away.

Thes motors run hot. If its the Mk1 the best combo is just one prop - 7x5E on 3s LIPO.

Not sure what the MkII does.

That's interesting... I've never tried this setup as I don't have any prop under 8", I'll have to give it a try with the Apogee pack
