I wonder how this could be, since the thicker wing is made of the same foam as the thinner one? I'm also curious as to the type of foam an SS wing is made of? It is never advertised or discussed.

My thinner wings sure seem like they would snap under less tension than the thicker wings, but I've been wrong before.

The foam used on the older thinner wing was the same as ordinary depron sheets, while the foam of the thicker wing was different and softer, that's why GWS had to add its thickness for keeping the same strength as the thinner one. But I found that the thicker one is still easier to get snapped than the thinner one under the same tension, something like soft grade balsa sheet vs medium hard balsa sheet, same thick ones. Oh well, balsa is way better than those foams in my idea.

And look at the latest GWS Beaver's wing, and the wings of Pico Cub, Pico Stick, Pico TM, they were all covered by a very thin coat, why ? Same reason for the strength needed. The wings of the oldest versions of all these birds did not come with the thin coat on their tops, and they looked even whiter, why ? Same reason applied. I think that they could not find out the same foam material in China as what they originally applied in Taiwan, as a result adding thickness or the top coat became a must on all these birds. The good thing is they look thicker and tougher, the downside is they are slightly heavier and not as tough as what they look like. Fortunately, brushless motors plus lipo give more power on these birds, but I'd like to add reinforcements to their tail feathers if I have to build them up.

Yes, I have to manage throttle otherwise the trailing edges start to flutter.

And, YES, I did install the Upgrade Carbon Fiber Tubes for both the Leading Edge and Trailing Edges.

Charging a battery now to do a watt check and see what prop
were might need, someone recommended a 9X4.7SF, but
everyone is out of them.

128w, 10.7A at full throttle, 2s 1800mah battery, 9X4.5thin

571g, 20.1oz, 1.258lbs. That's dead on 100w per pound.

And we have had the wing on twice and broke all but one of
the rubber bands that came with it. One broke while Brad had
it on the CoG stand and it hit him in the mouth......

Carlos,

I noticed that you put tubes, tube kind, to the wing mount for extending the four hooks on it, it's a very good idea. It's a pain for applying rubbers on them. I'll tell my old flying buddy your great idea. Thank you.

I used 5-minute epoxy to adhere on the short Plastic Nibbles (GWS Plastic Wing Mount Assembly). I don't think CA will work too well due to the stresses of the Rubber Bands and during mounting.

After cutting the Hollow Aluminum Tubes, make sure you sand the cut end so, you do not cut yourself!!!

I thought that plastic tube might work on it, the idea of Hollow Aluminum Tubes is way much better. Thank you again for such a thoughtful advice.

Be reminded to locate the CoG correctly as I'm afraid yours might be a little tail heavy unless you'd like to move the wing backward. Check the location of motor and its size on Carlos' SS, these might affect the CG location quite a bit.

It balanced at 4". We had to move the wing up 1/2 from
recommended setting. The battery is 140g.
