Have you ever tried using a NiCd battery charger? You can set the current and use that on some models. There are even some with hot wire settings.

Hey HoverOrDie,

Cool idea with the foam, I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out and if I should follow suit. I was planning on balsa stripping mine and potentially add a thin layer of fiberglass.

I've already test built the canopy part this way and found it to be plenty strong, you just have to be careful of warping. I have to reexamine my canopy design to prevent this warping from happening...

My PS has a 24V 4A output. Actually all I would need to change would be the rheostat (light switch). I can't set it low enough.

I use a universal laptop power adapter. It can handle 4A and has voltage settings of 12V to 24V and everything in between @ 2V increments. Cheap and easy to find. Just gotta make sure to check the resistance of your length of nichrome wire so you don't fry the adapter.

chargers will work on softer foams, Just make sure you set them to manual.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=603

But like i mentioned softer foam the denser foams will trip the built in resistance protectors in the chargers. I have i have in another build im trying to get off the ground

Awesome raptor build!

Received these today..I have a good way of overcoming the elevator now..just seems hard to get motivated to work on this jet with so many problems to overcome..I find the answer to a problem and another pops up..
Gotta work through it I guess...
Well here's a pic of the elevator bearing blocks..They weigh between 10 and 11 grams for the 4 pieces..
Take care..........Chris

Those look to me a lot like igus bearings. If they are I can recommend the company. They have outlets in the states, and if their customer care is anything like the uk operation it'll be good-free samples of what interests you etc.
Stuart
Ps apart from the pillow block all the above and more came in a welcome pack after I'd spent about 20 with them!
