Needed: Machine Screws of Assorted sizes - Having Issues Finding Them:

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend any web sites of places I can go to and check out some bolt and screws? I am having issues finding some screws & bolts. I did not think these would be so difficult to locate. I found one place, but even then I spent a while sorting thru a bunch of screws etc. only to find one or two of what I was looking for.

Right off the top I need some of these approx. sizes:

1. W-5/16” x Thread - 24 x L- 1-1/4”
2. W-5/16” x Thread - 24 x L- 4"
3. W-5/16” x Thread - 24 x L- 4-1/4"
4. W-5/16” x Thread - 24 x L- 4-1/2"
5. 4-40 x 2"
6. 4-40 x 2-1/2"
7. 4-40 x 3"
8. 2-56 x 1-1/2"
9. 2-56 x 2"
10. 2-56 x 2-1/2"

Please forward any web sites that you think would carry these size machine bolts. I am looking for Stainless Steel, Flat Head, and Phillips but will consider other types if that's the only way to get the sizes I am looking for.

Thanks
Ed

In the length the you need, socket head cap screws might be your only option. McMaster is probably your best bet, very reasonable prices and unmatched service.

On the smaller #2 and #4 try threaded rods that may solve your needs.

The 5/16-24 is a regular NF thread size. You may or may not find them at Home Depot or Lowes. The home hardware outlets tend to only stock the NC grades. But if you check with automotive parts dealers you'll likely find one that sells NF bolts. Or they'll know of a supplier that does. Depending on where you live check for a Fastenall dealer in your area as one option.

Another option if you're located in the country or near a smaller town is the local farm supply place will tend to have a big bulk nuts and bolts section. There's a good chance you'll find bins of the 5/16NF or 5/16-24NF sizes there.

For the rest of the sizes either the online places mentioned already or try a place that caters to the electronics industry trades. For those you will have to buy a box of 100 for each size. But the good news is that you'll then have a supply for the rest of your life.

Machine screws

I hope you're able to find what you want but - I've not seen 2-56 or 4-40 Machine screws in the length you want. One can find 2-56 and 4-40 up to 1 inch in length but 2" or greater I've not personally ever seen. Some time ago I was building a compressed air motor and needed longer than 1 inch 2-56 and ended up making my own with a 2-56 die. Let us know if you find them.

Hi Guys

I noticed that, I got more hits with Socket head cap screws overall and more hits closer to the overall length that I was looking for. I will check out McMaster.

Thanks Guys

Hi Tom,

RTL & Micro Fasteners are 2 shops I go for usually for these bolts & screws etc. I always make sure to stop by and stock up when they are at a trade show, especially when they are at the WRAM Show........

Unfortunately they do not have what I need this time around.

Thanks

Hi jcyr1,

I had the same very thought after searching the web for 2 hours. I may have to break out the Tap & Die set and thread a 2-56 & 4-40 rod, to get what I need.

Thanks

Hi Bick,

I came to the same conclusion, it may be difficult to find. However I was not sure at the time when I started to look. But now after these replies at least you guys have kind of confirmed what I started to think....

Thanks
