Hobby King Athena Warmliner brief review
Maidened my HobbyKing Athena warmliner this week.
Nice to see HK adding higher quality birds to their fleet.
The Athena arrived well packaged and went together quite easily. The wing is shipped in two parts to save freight costs, but with a short rectangular aluminum joiner and locating pegs, a quick layer of 15min epoxy and she's a one piece wing!
Horiz. and Vert tails also are epoxied onto the full epoxy/carbon fuse.
No rudder on this 1.48m bird...and until flown, was wishing it had one. After flight, not needed at all.
She will thermal decently as she's so light (700g) and turns well to get back in once sink is felt.
Running a Nanotech 45-90C 1300mAh 3S
Handles like a dream...on rails. Loops, rolls, all easy stuff. Stock power system and 9" carbon prop deliver vertical climbout easily.
Programmed 60/40 Aileron differential, and have wing servos on their own channels to allow spoilerons and flaperons.
After flying a number of batteries now, she like hard drop Spolierons to slow down and sink for landings. Flaperons had little effect on slowing her done (she comes in quite fast at times, even into the wind)
So now I reduced flaperon throw to only 1/4" and use it as a "thermal" mode...and hse DOES respond well to it, feeling much floatier when they are deployed.
All in all a real fun plane...and she fits in my Honda Element w/out removing the wing!
Here she is!
And here are links to a couple of Youtube videos. First one is the maiden, Mobius facing front.
Second one was the next flight, camera facing rearward, flown at my local field in Stow Ohio this past Tuesday.
Not sure why this second video link isn't imbedded
Hope you enjoyed my mini-review. Thinking now of a HK Perseus!

I've just received my Athena from HK. I thought it was a PnP plane but when I opened (hard to open) the box... I don`t know how to install the wings! Neither the elevator and rudder!
I`ve never built a carbon fiber plane.
Could you please help me?

CG and Weight
Just heard back from Contest Hobby, the manufacturer of this plane, the Perseus, Telamon, etc...
CG is 55mm-57m from LE
Weight without battery is 565g
Weight with battery is obviously dependent on what one uses.
Finishing two Versus DLGs right now, and an Arthobby Falco, so the Athena needs to wait just a tad....unboxed it and the build quality seems VERY, very nice. But, proof will be in the build.
