I've joined a new RC club that has no power. I'm not set up for charging with a generator or deep cycle batteries. I'm using a Hyperion duo II (may upgrade to the new Icharger) charging mostly 3s 2200 to 4s 5000mAh at 10 amps.
whats the best way to go
I've hear of people using two 12V deep cycle in series (24V) for 30 amp charging. Then using a generator and battery charger to charge the deep cycle batteries. Is this the best way? or can I just hook my power supply and hyperion to the generator?
Was looking at a 2000watt generator at costco for $500.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

In my opinion, yes. Do NOT run your charger directly from the generator. The power is not filtered enough for such use.

That would depend on the generator. The honda generators are fine

It is an inverter so it SHOULD be ok. I don't know for certain though.

Couple comments

The specs don't list the db rating on it so I would expect it to be noisier than an equivalent Honda. Run times seem a little short even in Econo-mode. Other than that, it looks fine.

Tried that but turned up nothing. Maybe you could point me in the right direction?

I went to search and entered Generator and selected titles only, Display as Threads and restricted it to this forum only. That found 23 threads averaging maybe 20 posts each. Probably worth a look.

Removing some of the restrictions (like this forum only) greatly increases the list of matches but also increases the "noise" that you have to sift through.

I think I paid around $160 for two 85ah costco deep cycle batteries. Wire them up in series and charged my 12s 5000mah packs all day. No need for a generator, just recharge the deep cycles when you get back home. The draw back is they are heavy. I put them in a milk crate and use that wonderful little $20 fold away dolly at costco to wheel them to the pits.

My generator used to power my MasTech 5020 power supply for doing A123-10S2P @ 20amps (38V -- 760watts) is my running 2007 For Explorer and Vector 2000 Watt Inverter -- big Inverter Generator!

Opened another Tab and used the Search function to find the Links.
Used copy Link ,switched Tab (back to here) pasted then switched back to Search tab ,repeat.
