Got my ESR meter today delivered in my post box here in Sweden! I did not expect it for a number of days actually, so pleasant surprise indeed. Thanks Wayne!

I made some measurements on my old Gens Ace 5000 mAh, 50C hardcase packs that has gone through countless cycles where I am the second owner. These packs have been used in R/C car racing (1/10 TC stock class) so they have gotten some heavy usage. They measured:

2.84, 2.76, pack=16.5
2.92, 3.24, pack=17.4

Which is what can be expected I guess.

But, the brand new Orca 6200 mAh, 100C batteries were a total ripoff!
I get :

4.04, 4.12, pack=18.3
4.5, 4.44, pack=19.2

Fully charged, 23 degrees. The comparison to the Gens Ace was made at the same time. The Orcas has gotten maybe 3-4 cycles.

These Orcas are used by Alexander Hagberg too, one of Swedens top R/C racers (for the Xray team), so that was why I got them. Either I have gotten a pair of Orcas from a bad batch or they are really that bad. I started to get suspicious when they got a bit warm from charging and usage, which my old Gens Ace never got. My lap times did not improve either with the Orcas. And capacity wise I got nothing more out of them in run time compared to the Gens Ace despite they should be 1200 mAh more. The capacity testing is subjective so far, I haven't done proper discharge measurements on them, but the ESR reading does indicate that these Orcas is nowhere near what they claim...

I guess I will try to return them and get myself a new set of Gens Ace or similar instead.

Thanks Wayne for a terrific tool!

make sure u have a few cycles before making the final determination , some say the ir drop w/ a few cycles can be significant although i have never seen a big drop from new.

as far as the gens ace go ............be aware you may not get as good a battery now as your old ones proved to be. they have been iffy at best from time to time.

Thanks for the advice.
I'll give them a second chance...

Any tips of good quality brands of hardcase car Lipos (2s1p) is highly appreciated.

I have had long discussions over several years with Danny at SMC Racing who specialise in car packs and he has a genuine interest in trying to obtain the very best cells for his packs. Unusually, he also has an overwhelming desire to tell the truth about real maximum current ratings.

Thanks!

Looks fine by the reviews there.
And there was an interesting thread as well:

Unfortunately no ROAR legal 2-cell with 4 mm plugs as far as I could tell...
