blade 300x or 230s, need advice

to get 230s or 300x? 300x has many upgrades with lynx blades, and custom canopy looks fantastic.

I never flew mini size heli’s before and only with micros such as mcpx or nano cps. any advice what to look for?

Thx in advance….

For a first larger heli, I would lean towards the 230S. Don't really consider the 230 a "mini" class. More like the top end (size wise) of the micro class where the 300 is surely a "mini" class machine.

Depending on your skill level, the 230S is a fantastic platform which can do plenty in the hands of an experienced pilot. It's almost my favorite heli mainly because it is a capable flyer yet is very relaxing to fly. Great heli to learn inverted flight and perfect some of the less aggressive maneuvers..... but you can push it and receive a nice experience over and over again!

I have a 270cfx and a 300 class heli which both fly outstanding and can do anything I want them to do but my latest "go to" early in the morning is the 230S. Just enough heli to get the old blood circulating!

ADDED: also, there are quite a few upgrades available for the 230S but it does not really need any except possible a good set of CF blades! I've tried 3 different brands and they all perform well. Different flight characteristics but the "Blade" branded set from HH is the best overall. MicroHeli CF set has a little more lift due to a larger chord so it seems slightly less agile in 3d. Perception is everything so your results might be different. Lastly, the Zeal 238mm set are OK but seem to have the least amount of lift.... but the balance is amazing on the set I received.

Since he has never flown mini hell's before, there is a good chance his heli will be taking a dirt nap. In that case, the 230S will be much cheaper to repair if need be.

Thx fellow flyers…
Local guy sells 300x with few upgrades in excellent condition with 3 lipo’s included for $180….. but that’s without a charger.
LHS sells 230s bnf for $249, and I need at least 3 batteries plus a charger, it will costs around $400.
As we all are tight on money, and also don’t want to piss off Mrs…..lol

Can i tame the tx settings on 300x to fly similar to stability mode on 230s?

p.s.: I can do sports flight and mild 3D flips, and inverted flight without any problems on nano heli’s.

Google promo or coupon for Horizon Hobby and you'll find a 10% off which always helps if buying from HH.

You can tame the 300x down quite a bit but I believe it will stunt your growth (pun intended)! When tame, you will not get the performance you need to practice any more advanced maneuvers plus you will not have the benefits of Panic when you get into trouble. Even tamed down, the 300x will not have the same stability as a 230S.

I understand your reasoning but my opinion is to shop for the 230S then purchase some non EFlite batteries. I dug out some GForce 800mah 25C batteries that were still new but purchased a year plus ago and the 230S flew perfectly with all three! These batteries are about $8.25 each so you can buy 3 for the price of 1 EFlite!

One more consideration...... the 230S will be less expensive and easier to repair the the 300x so you might spend the same amount no matter which direction you choose! Good Luck! Good Flying!

The 300x has been discontinued for a long time. Even it's replacement is discontinued. I'm pretty sure lynx quit making aftermarket parts for both.

The 230s is a great choice.

Same parts, same dimentions, always be able to get Lynx says

A 270 cfx is the new 300cfx... A new 360 cfx is a 450x dimension wise. Whoever made the comment about parts availability may not be entirely correct. Half the parts on a 230s are "300 x" parts. Main blade grips etc... I took a 230s main shaft and dfc head set up and put it on a 300 size bird....
And you have a cheap, super cool DFC set up for your 300 cfx. Bolted right on.

Hi Stretch 2280,
How did the performance with the DFC head compare with the stock 300X head?
Apologies to the OP for diverting the topic.

It's not a rock and roll bird in my opinion but I'm far from what some of these guys do....it absolutely amazes me how they orient themselves at times. I had the stuff so I tried it, it's clear it seems that HH is getting hammered by this clone business which suc&$ IMHO. It's theft of intellect and immense amounts of capital. The DFC setup on a stock 300x w plate stiffener worked but it's slightly lower, you can't get in the blue on travel w a 7200bx which doesn't matter for me any longer because all three of mine "went dark" the same day... All you can see is orange on the bottom side of the Rx. .??? Yes if you open one there is a milled section in the case and a amber colored light I'm referring to as the "your BeastX has been...umm...yeah well we just shut it down. 3 different birds, 3 different esc's 3 different beastX and I'm worried to do anything with this new mini kbar (in which I was clueless of what I was buying for lack of knowledge). DFC did work. I'm still waiting to hear from HH about my 230s.
