FLOWN WITH DRAGON LINK

Here is the kind of performance you can expect with Dragon Link. Being able to fly FPV without loss of RC control changes everything A customer was good enough to send us these pictures from a Dragon Link flight. I cant wait to see the video !!!

Chris that looks very cool. Might this be a good way to compare and load new hopping patterns instead of trial-and-error? Pick a combo, add it to the FW, hit update?

Im not a programer guru, but i think that the hopping algorithm does not have anything to do with PPM streams not being standar all across the board.

No, nothing to do with PPM, but surely the hopping steps must be in the firmware somewhere? Iguess it would have to be recompiled with the new steps before loading and resetting, adding a lot of complexity.

anyhoo, i know next to nothing about computers or electronics (though I just finished my first arduino program last night!!) so I will now shut up about it

Hello I am very interested in purchasing a dragon link system and have a few questions before I make a purchase. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated! Sorry if this is a repleat there are almost 2000 pages to go through and i'm sure i'll be re asking questions that have been answered so please bare with me.

1) I have a Futaba t10CAP - will I need to use the trainer port or can I just use the standard 5pin connector cable for my system as seen in the futaba installation instructions as the "first and easiest way" ? ( see my futaba radio images here)

2) It says it comes with everything you need to fly but I see a lot of different items to purchase on the purchase page. What do I need to purchase to get the dragon link up and running as advertised?

2b) Will purchasing the "Transmitter Connector Type" for 269/274 include everything I need to fly as advertised? or do I need to purchase the extra long range receiver with antenna and the extra 1/2 wave super long range transmitter antenna( both sound similiar to what is supposed to be included)

3) I have heard that the dragon link has ports for a head tracker - is this true? Where can i find more information on this?

4) What is the return policy for the dragon link should it not function properly or does not meet expectations(I'm sure it will!)?

Thank you! It would be greatly appreciated if you could include any relevant information I may not have asked

Best Regards,

Chris

I'm not really allowed to talk about any part of the chan hop algorithm, so I'd hope it wasn't standard

I should add, the DragonLink is quite digital. Think of it more like the wireless card in a computer rather than a analog FM radio. The PPM stream is digitized on input and then never paid attention to again.

Sadly, there isn't any other way to do it than trial and error. A typical user has no idea how to evaluate the RF profile of their flying field, nor do I want to make that a necessary step in DragonLink setup. Pretty much, if it doesn't work, change the ID and more often than not it will work

For future versions of the Dlink there will probably be improvements in this system.

I apologize ahead of time if this has already been covered in the recent posts. I jump in and out of this thread quickly here and there just to keep up on the jist of things so I don't always catch the actual post that creates a topic that is talked about for a while.

I'm going to try to hook up my new DL V2 trans and rx tomorrow and only have about an hour to set down with it before I head out for a shoot. Instead of digging through the threads I'm hoping someone can help me out with a couple questions.

I read in here somewhere that some of the channels are labeled incorrectly on the new v2 rx's? What is the correct order?

I think I can find this one but what is the correct procedure for calibrating my tx to my rx? Can't hardly wait to get back in the air! Have a good one guys and I'll check back in tomorrow.

When did you buy? The labeling was fixed in the latest rev. Basically, the only issue was that 1-8 channel side of the RX was reversed. This doesn't affect the pinout, but it does mean ch8 is actually ch1.

Impressed

Just set up my first dragon link on a futaba 9 cap. It had been on a shelf for a few months due to travel.

Following the manual got me through the steps and this thread had me alerted to various gotchas eg reversed pin markings. I also had to scout out a few youtube videos for moral support. This one was helpful...

Multiple receivers with Dragon Link and Setting Fail Safe.avi (6 min 4 sec)

I could not get it in to micro power mode and ended up changing the id by mistake and had to start over. So I decided to to a range test with the dummy load on the Tx instead.

Well I walked away about 100ft and still had full control. I had to get wifey out to watch my quad motors spin (no props) as I was so far away I could not hear them any more. I ended up over 300ft away before I got a failsafe with the Tx still in low power mode! This was in the middle of an LA suburb.

Next test with the antenna on the Tx I left the quad in the house and left a mobile phone beside it so I could listed to the motors spin as I drove off in the car. At one mile I still had control of the motors even though I was in a car, the quad was in the house and there was nothing but houses between the two. It only went in to failsafe after a mile and only when I drove down the other side of a hill!

Wow. Now if I could just find some time to get in the air.

Receiver PPM Configuration

Receiver PPM Configuration:
OK
getting ready to get my Ruby system working in a new plane.
I want to use the PPM stream from my new V2 rx.
Quote:
1. Start with the DragonLink RX powered off
2. Use the included jumper, or any hookup wire to bridge the signal pins of channels 11 and 12
3. Apply power to the DragonLink RX
4. Watch the LEDs.
a. If the LEDs blink apart, this means PPM is now “disconnected”. In this mode, the servo signal for channel 12 will be output just as any other servo signal on the DragonLink RX would be.
b. If the LEDs blink together, this means PPM is now “connected”. In this mode, PPM is output on channel 12. The only way to access the servo reading for channel 12 would be to decode the PPM signal
5. If the PPM mode is not configured as you would like, start from step 1 again.
6. Otherwise, if you would like to keep PPM in the mode that the LEDs indicated, remove power, remove the jumper and then power up the DragonLink RX as normal
.
well, the lights on the RX do the same start up everytime. jumper on jumper off
I am up loading a video.
What am I missing here?
