Build Log
Chase C-122 Avitruc Scratchbuild

This post announces the start of my effort to build a 48- to 50-inch wingspan, electric-powered sport scale model of the Chase C-122 Avitruc.

I will be documenting the build on my blog, HERE

I thought an announcement in this forum would be appreciated by some.

I will occasionally post updates in this thread, to refresh it from time to time but, the day-to-day (or... week-to-week?) progress will be documented on the blog.

David

Periodic report summarizing the Bog

I continue to do research, documented on the blog.

I've settled on a 1400 mm (56-inch) wingspan model, which works out to about 1/15 scale. I'm planning a MPF foam structure with 1/32 balsa sheeting and film covering... that estimates out to be about 400 grams of structure and I'm going to shoot for half a kilo finished weight (about 1.2 pounds).

A twin-motor system of 1000 Kv motors, powered with 3S, driving 8-inch 3-bladed props (a 8040x3 to start) should do the trick. I'm going to plan about +40% current allowance in case more prop pitch is needed.

I found general arrangement drawings in the two Pilot's Manuals (Models A&B and C&D) for the aircraft. Here is the "D" model, partially cleaned up.

I volunteered to direct the Conversion contest, over in the "Balsa Builders" forum; and, I still need to finish the Goldberg Eagle.

The Avitruc plan is still on the wall at the entrance to my bedroom... I've not forgotten.
