Wow, what a nightmare. Just a warning, don't change your skin to mobile view or you'll never ever see an option to get it back to normal again. Here is the URL to your control panel if you do (luckily google was much more help than rcgroups).

Agreed - make it flow, no fixed width. Glad you guys are trying to improve things, but I have to say the beta is not better. Even if it flowed to the size of the browser, it is still harder on the eyes. The white part of the icons blends into the background making it a bit harder to distinguish them.

I'm actually quite happy with the current look and feel.

Now, what would be really cool is to have a check box next to each thread that would hide the thread while browsing and in searches.

On the thumbs up side:

I do like how "clean" the new look is, as far as it being an overall whiter and/or lighter color scheme.

However ...

On the big thumbs down side:

Seems to me MORE folks would be ending up with wider LCD displays as time and technology wear on? I have run my Dell 24" LCD for several years now and enjoy the "view" it affords. To fix the width of this site seems to infer that most of the world is still running on 15" monitors. Seems a large step backwards to me .... very 640x480-ish IMO.

Yep another vote here for NO fixed width.

The fixed width looks absolutely terrible on a large screen and the background is a total waste of space. Keep it at full screen please.

I fear change!

Another vote here for nixing the fixed size, I use my 42" TV as my monitor...makes for a lot of wasted screen.

If nothing else, make it possible to opt out of the new style, RCG is perfect as it is!

Get rid of the fixed width. Nothing wrong with the way the site is, leave it alone!!!

Wanting to change color, that is fine. Want to change 'badges' that is fine. Want to chage themes or skins, that is fine, but start messing with how a site displays on a browser and folks get irked.

Just imagine one of those long posts where somone never understood that 65 lines and one paragraph makes for hard reading. Imagine that one huge paragraph on this fixed width screen.

Sad. That is about the best word I can think of for this situation. Now I will go and revert back to the original format.

Another vote down for the fixed width. More features, icons, options, sure, great...but keep the screen width, it's there to use.

(should've made this thread a poll...?)

I have not adjusted to the new image viewing format, which I don't like. I understand a drive to increase revenue, just dont' screw things up so we don't want to be here.

+1 to making this into a poll

There's obviously some contention around this fixed width so why not add in a poll ??

1. Ditch the fixed width (it's great on an iPhone but nobody's going to like it for their desktop!).
2. Update the header to look like the footer (Dark and somber blue is great).
3. Call it a day!

I guess I'll dump my widescreen monitor and go back to a 15" screen...
