New HobbyKing Hercules 500 frame -- I love it!

This thing looks awesome to me. I had to order one. Going to strip the electronics off my 650 scorpion and put on here (ya ya, only 4 of motors/escs LOL). Then I'm going to light it up with LED strips. I'll post more when I get it done and post an overview. At 460g reported weight, it should be pretty decent. Its quite abit lighter than the Predator or Alien. It just looks badass imo.

Ordered one too... love the looks and the price.. the red alloy not so much but, we can sand of the color, saves weight LOL.

When i saw it, it seemed very familiar.. in the hk discussion there is a comment about the
EAGLE-650 Quadcopter, it's bigger and weighs the same :-(
Or the blackhawk quadcopter, but could not find much data on this one.

This one must be better :-)..

i've got DT750's that i'm trying first.
Props not sure, will first try whats on the motors now 10x4.5.
KK2.0 first and maybe later switch to APM 2.5 full set as controller, osd and telemetry.
9x controller.

Mine just came in yesterday. I am in the middle of redoing my garage/workshop, so I probably won't be starting it for another week or so.
Going with
30amp RCmanchild ESCs
4000mah 4s Nanotechs
11x4.7 props
These motors - http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=25556
Going to put my Naza Lite w/GPS on it. I haven't really played with it yet. Might slap the KK 2.0 on it for simplicity tho. Not sure yet LOL
and lot of LED lights

thanks RimRC, it seems that HK quality control is asleep.

a video of the quad in action would be nice, if anyone is up to it. i just might take the plunge.
i was thinking of an "H" frame, but this is so much nicer looking, and for video, this frame would be great...and cheap.

how about prop size? i am using 1045's with Turnigy Multistar 2213-980Kv outrunners on my Talon. it looks like the prop pollution would be ok if i moved my stuff over to this frame.

I ordered one too a few days ago. I hope no standoffs are missing. A few people are already complaining on the HK website that their kit is missing standoffs. Other that that it's a well made kit, at least that's what I heard.

Could not find any 18mm tapped spacers not even on ebay, for now i ordered 20mm ones:
Turnigy Talon V2 M3 Hex Tapped Spacer (2pcs).

And i never liked the plastic spacers, so i got some metal spacers for the landing gear mount too, those are 8mm.

These are my tools that i used, i realy appreciate the manuals where on the first page state what tools you need to complete the build of a kit.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/sh...SWEik51XJ1HH7o

1.5mm hex driver
2.0mm hex driver
2.5mm hex driver
Phillips screwdriver
General hobby wrench for m3 nuts.

Add threadlocker and glue for the canopy and you're done, for the frame at least!

o, and the prop distance to the stock frame:

12"

10"

I got mine off the ground yesterday. It really went together well for me. Yes, I was missing the 2 spacers. I had lots of nylon spacers from doing scratch builds. I just cut a couple to the right size. Used them for the 2 fronts. Took maybe 3 minutes to find them, 30 seconds to cut them. Works fine. I really like the looks of this in the air. Unfortunately, I was testing it in my crowded driveway. Lots of trees. Too tight really. I suffered some stupid fingers and wound up hitting a trash can. This sent the Herc to the driveway upside down. Didn't hit very hard. But it broke the front 2 motor mounts. Those things are definitely too soft. I ordered some aluminum ones from CNC Spall Parts. Should be here this week.

I was using my KK2.0 board. Flying was smooth. I was going to start tweaking some settings, but got stupid before I got the chance. I did just use a 3s 2200mah battery for this test. I got over 6 minutes before I dumb thumbed it. Not sure how long it would have gone, but it wasn't getting sluggish yet. I might not need that huge 4s after all LOL. It seemed to have lots of power, punched straight up plenty fast. I do not regret getting this frame. Missing spacer was only a minor irritation. The motor mounts really do such though. But still, I feel I got my $44 worth.

Just put my Hercules frame together just to see where I will put my gear once I have everything I need. Assembling of the frame was easy. The quality of the kit is pretty good, well except of the two missing aluminum spacers. Will contact Hobbyking and request the two missing spacers.
