RG731BX versus RG712BX

These two receivers seem to have the same number of ports, size, weight and functionality.
The only feature added to the 712 is described as low consumption.
Is the 712 intended to replace the 731. My only complaint with the 731 is that it runs hot.

one vs three

I have just got one, the use the same case as the 731b but there is only one pc board in there and no satellites, although a satellite is coming which seems to just have two extra antennas. I think they looked what the others were doing and decided if they wanted to stay in the game they had better do something. The antenna diversity is the clue, using the best signal instead of using three receivers. I am going to put it in one of my F3J planes and see how it goes. I think that although the fuses are 2.4 friendly I'll put the antennas out anyway, just the tip (only 26mm long) not the booster section or whatever it is. My recent 731b came with these antennas too, a bit of a problem in a slim fuse.
The lower consumption must be due to using one rather than three receivers.

Interesting. One item that threw me for a loop is the RCJapan website that lists the range of the receiver at 600m while saying the 731 has 1km range.

Please let me know if the new receiver also runs cooler.

Thanks, Stefano

I just got some comments on the receiver that suggests very good range performance as compared to the 731 rx (contradicting the listed range from Stefano). As soon as I get one (just ordered one now) I will install it in a plane and provide a report.

Does anyone know if there is any plan to make XBUS compatible with other brands of servos...like Futaba SBUS servos? As of right now, it appears that XBUS is not compatible with other brands of SBUS servos in either Mode A or B without a decoder, which limits its usefulness, unfortunately.

not near the servos

One thing I learned today whilst installing the receiver in an Aspire is that the fuse servos chatter if you have the antennas anywhere near them. I guess it is the antenna booster picking up any electro-magnetic radiation from the servos and sort of acting like a feed back loop. You only have to move them a little way before the chatter stops.

Good

I went out today with the Aspire with the 712 fitted (both antennas forwards from the receiver, one horizontal on one side of the fuse, the other at 45 degrees on the other). Not a very good install but what I could do in the time. We did a thorough range test at about 40 paces, no problems. I then had three flights in quite weak lift with some strong cores. I got the plane nearly to the limit of my eyesight and quite high (800' -1000'. I would normally get a bit further away and higher at comps but the model is green, my eyes were watering and the sunnies were not optimal for the green wings. However, very solid reception to the furthest limit, very pleased and I won't be taking it out of the plane and will be getting a few more at the price Model Flight are offering them. So the only small problem will be the placement of the antennas.
I will be interested in seeing how Joe gets on with his superior eyesight but I think there will be no problems. So far well done JR, now fix the manual and put some worked examples in it like you did with the 9303.

Consumption

The 712BX used about half the mAhrs than a 631B or an 831B. 80mAhrs vs 165 mAhr.

712bx

I got a couple of these with me now...
I like to check if anyone have put it into F3F ship yet ?
Before I start changing out mine to 712BX ..

update:
Will not get a chance to fly F3f till the season start in a few weeks.
But I did a bench test conpare to 731 and 831 , the 712bx is definitely not hot comparing these two.
To be safe I have a r01t full range also installed as advice on the manual. Still did not heat up as compare to 731 and 831 hock up with r01t. So far so good.

Joe W posted this in the F3K forum:

"The 712BX receiver seems to work nicely. The benefits are that it does not need a satellite to have downlink capability and that the current drain is lower. I got a bit of reasonable weather today to do some test flying and it appears that it translates my commands to the airplane reliably, even at my eyesight limits. It works very well for F3K once you remove the bulky plastic case."

Received a couple of them today form RCJapan.
I am not clear from the manual if the Remote Antenna for this receiver is the same as the one for the 731BX. Do you know?
