F3B World Cup in Colmar

Congratulations to my friend Andreas Kunz of Germany. He won last weekends F3B world cup in Colmar France. The German team had a great showing with the German team manager winning, followed by fellow German team pilot Thomas Dylla placing second, and Dr. Jens Buchert taking fourth. The ever competitive Andreas Bohlen of Switzerland placed third.

and discussion on the French forum with results are here

Congratulations to all. I hope to hear more about the weekend. I hope they continue to hold F3B contests in France, I look forward to attending one.

A great selection of paint jobs at this contest! I wonder if there was wind? The overcast skies don't look condusive to 13 second speed runs?

Oh Laurent, I really want to come. But alas, we are coming to Kulmbach before Nardt, so my time off from work is completely spoken for. I will come in the future for sure. My wife's parents live in Northern France half of the year, so we will be there for sure.

Weather was really cold, especially for a April in France...

Temperature was about 5°C with a terrible cold wind, not so strong (10km/h)

Durations were launched every 6 minutes, so up to 16 gliders were in the air in the same time. No strong thermal, just small spots.

Launches were often higher than 300m due to wind in the winch line direction.

Andreas Kunz performed an amazing crazy last speed ! He was 3rd before the task but took a great amount of risk. Combined with a perfect trajectory, it was really nice to see

Knowing the dry humor of Chris, I suspect that is why he posted it!

The chute is behind the plane so the line isn't hooked.

One can hope that is true! I know that I've done more than one launch and forgetting to ensure that the chute top is captured...

Kunzi is known for some epic speed runs, indeed great to watch. Cool that he could clinch the win with it! That is the fun thing about the last inverse speed, if you do well, you immediately move up.

@Aaron: different chute systems are used in Europe, maybe the launcher was not using the same hook up protocol.
