Estes V-2 converted into a R/C BG A4b/A9

Recently completed and flew this kit-bash of the 2.6" Estes semi scale V2 into a semi scale A4b (or A9 if you prefer) manned winged V2.

Internal pop pod, Estes E12-4 power, taileron control.

Used two HTX900 servos, Lemon 6 channel RX and a 180mah lipo with regulator for the radio system. The flights are short but great fun!,

Thanks, Dave.

Since DARS is without a hp site again, a group of us are making a run to Hearne on July 11, weather permitting. Come on down!

If there is going to be some R/G action down there, I just may join you!

Dave
I am planning on bringing several, mostly smallish. I have a new profile XB-70 to go with the InteR/Ceptor, plus the A4b and the little Shuttle and the Whipit conversion.

Plan on having the modified Avatar there as well.

Hearne is in central Texas, between Waco and College Station. A long ways from CA, I am afraid.

If you google "manned v2 A4b" and click on images, you will find a decent number of results, both line drawings and renderings.

My model is sport scale, with wings enlarged from the various renderings and illustrations. The Estes V2 kit already has larger than scale fins and I added even more to them to make them resemble the A4b fins.

I used this rendering and sketched the wings I wanted in around the originals. Same for the fins. Added a carved balsa canopy using the "that looks about right" method and that was it.

Thanks. V2s are always fun. I have a Maxi Brute V2 that I need to finish and I might just convert one or two more of the Estes sport scale V2 models into semi scale RC manned A6 and A9 models

No real build thread. The model is documented more over on the Rocketry Forum site:

http://www.rocketryforum.com/showthr...ale-manned-A4b

The elevons were sized using the "that looks about right" method. Ply control horns, Dubro micro pushrods, HXT500 micro servos. Nothing special. RX is a Lemon 6 channel DSM2 and I used an old micro GWS ESC as a BEC and a 180mAh 2s lipo for radio power.

The model uses a counterweighted boost tube and ejects the tube with the empty motor casing and motor counterweight, leaving just the airframe to glide back.

Motor used is an Estes E12-4.
