Poll
What New FMS 1700MM Model Would You Like To See Next?

First off, let me be clear. FMS has not requested that I run this poll. This is merely out of my own personal curiosity and if the results are intriguing enough, I could send the results to them to potentially help them make their decision for the next model in their 1700MM series IF and when that time comes.

Yes I know the Scale Purists among us will scoff, but I'm going to only include a small group of mainstream warbirds to choose from. The reason is simple. FMS won't likely be interested in selling an obscure (no matter how freakin' cool we might think it is) warbird to continue the series. It will need to be a mainstream selection to help increase sales. This is why the first three have been the Mustang, Corsair and Thunderbolt.

So without further ado..

Every model on the poll has been done to death. Do something new!!!!
Like a P-39, LA-7, Mig -3, a Val, or some other unusual stuff.

Like I said in my post, FMS is not about to go off the beaten path for the minority who desire "unusual stuff", at least not for the first group in a series. Like any business they are going to invest in product they believe has a high probability of sales.

There's good reason I didn't choose "unusual stuff" in this poll.

Aros -

They've already got the 'prime' mainstream examples in production. A more obscure one seems a better fit at this juncture.

The B-25, wonderful as it is, is being done to the max as a twin. If they want another 'glory' bird in the twin line up, the A-20 Havoc earned that and to some degree the A-26. Then we spill over into other famous twins like the Mosquito and black Widow.

As for a P-40, love 'em - had my H-K version out today and it fills 'warbird' to a "T", super flying plane. They'll need to 'one-up' that one, it's a keeper.

I would love a P-38 in the 1.7M size...Yowza! I would also love a P-40 as well. The B-25 and B-17 are ubiquitous to be sure but I bet would sell better than an A-20. Remember, their primary buying audience is less likely to have the passion for the less obvious warbird as many of you connoisseurs do. Not saying it wouldn't be refreshing to have warbirds that have yet to be released into the market, just that it's unlikely.

The P-38 of course would work in the twin line up but who would throw the coin in the air to decide on it (a fighter) or a bomber like the B-25?

Philosophically, I tend to think of the long haul in what they might produce as you can only come up with one a year, maybe, unless they're interested in rapidly tooling up to do more. There's been such a fluctuation of interest in the larger planes, do you think they'd seriously consider booting up production considering what's been said about the market for these?

It's been stated that FMS wants to emulate Horizon Hobby as the prime mover in the market. Horizon has produced a few surprises, like the Wildcat, among the prime WWII planes. There's the Hurricane, a fine looking model, but I don't see the likes of that considered for FMS.

How do they deal with the aspect of sales saturation of a certain model? Maybe yours and their crystal balls aren't showing what I look at. It seems like the market takes fickle turns as to what sells and what doesn't. Right now, the FMS candle is burning pretty intensely. No matter what they come up with, there'll be no guarantee that just sales will get them where they want to be. They're reputation is what will draw buyers if it's healthy. That, not the exact line of models, is what will sustain them, IMO.

Hey... and what about a 1700mm Stearman? You know it'd be almost as much fun as a bucket of 'possums! ...
