New Falcon 120

Thougth I would post some photos of my newly completed Falcon 120. This plane replaces my old "stock" Falcon 120 which I lost to a midair in May 2012.

I decided to strip the covering off and I glassed the wings, tail and booms with 1/2oz cloth applied with System 3 Clear coat epoxy. I used PPG epoxy primer and all of the colors on the plane are PPG base coat/clear coat. Plane has my old Dynamax/Scoprion 4035-630 KV motor with CC 160 amps esc. Plane flies on 12s 6000 mah packs. AUW is 15 lbs 4 oz. Fan system puts out 5 kw at 117 amps. Efflux is 203 mph. Tail pipe is 12" long and exhaust diamater is 3.75". Just for fun, I added some wing fences for effect.

Hope you like it.
Thanks,
Ed

HI Ed..............Interesting, I'm doing the same right now. I just glassed the wings today. The PPG paint cost more than the Falcon did. I decided to strip mine, because I mounted my new electric retracts, and installed gear doors. I'm actually doing 2 Falcons at the same time. One is EDF, the other is turbine. I'll post some pic's when I get closer to being finished, and a video of the retracts in operation.

How much time did it take you to paint it like this?

I first thought it was a turbine with a lot of packs in it

Very quailty work...

Guys:
Thanks for the kind words. I spent about 16 hours glassing, sanding and priming. The time for the application of the white base coat plus masking and shooting the the colors and the clear coat was about 20 hours of work (this is only the time I worked on the plane and not the time waiting for the paint to dry). I have about 3 hours masking the American Flag and about 20 minutes of painting.

Thanks again for the kind words. It is appreciated.

A/S, you ARE shameless . I would buy one if it was in the budget. If you want to "donate" one to the cause, I will put your name on the side of the nacelle (shameless begging ). Everything I used on the plane (cloth, paint and epoxy, etc.) was sutff I had on hand so I did not have to buy anything.

BillyD, build another one. I realize that the plane is only a $200 airframe but it flies so well on EDF and if you strangthen the airframe as others have done, there is no reason it will not last a long time. My thoughts are that I spend some money and time upfront and then I have a relatively inexpensive plane that should last a while.

I'm putting the servos in, should be done in a day or so. I just got Rodgers nacelle in for the Stumax option. (Shameless compliment: Truly Exceptional Fit and Finish Rodger)

I'll video the run up and thrust tests on the bench comparing the Stumax and Schubi on 12S. I also hope to be able to get the maiden on video.
