P3C Orion 60" and 40"

Some time ago I started a build thread on building a P3C Orion 60" version and also a 40" version. A few things in life got in the way and never really got much done with them. Well this past Friday was my last day in going into the business! Got people in place now for that which will give me much more time to work on these birds. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I will be starting from scratch with new wood from Charlie.

Which me luck!

Regards,

Alan

The generation of saw dust as begun. Starting with the fuselage. Never realized how long this 60" build will be! Fuselage will be 6ft.

Decided to make the the top and bottom runners out of basswood. Because of the length I had to make a scarf joint on the top runner. Never made one before. Looks good sure hope it holds!

As a youngster living in San Jose many years ago, I used to watch the P-3's go over my house on the landing approach to Moffett Field.

Hello Brian,
Thanks for tuning in! I bet it does bring back memories! This has already become somewhat of a challenge. I had asked Pat T to take the 84" version and scale it down to a 60" size a few years back. In doing so it has generated some sizes of material that are not available off the shelf. Not wanting to getting into cutting odd size material I am using off the shelf sizes which will more then likely make this build a little on the heavy side!
We shall see!

Alan,

I don't see any jigs for alignment. Did you use any? If not, you sure have a calibrated eye...

Looks really sharp...

Thank you George. No jig used. Did use a couple of squares against the sides to keep them at 90 degrees to the building board.
This is my first build in a very long time and I am using ACC for the first time. Little nervous about it.
