Very nicely done by Tom, Pat. Is that the late Dave Rees in the pic near the bottom? Another favorite designer of mine.

Yes it is Dave Rees at a Brainbusters/Maxecuters contest in Petersburg, VA some years ago. Dave was a great designer too! But Earl was the one of the early designers of scale planes and I remember the MAN issues with his plans from my childhood with fond memories.

Nice tribute. I had no idea that Dave Rees had passed away. I always enjoyed reading his articles in flying models.

Thank you Pat. I found a thread about his passing. As a kid growing up, free flight models were the only kind model planes within my reach and it sad to see people who have contributed so much depart.

I having grown up building stick & tissue have a soft spot for Old Timers.

I have a set of Stahl Fokker D VIII plans.

On my Old Timer RC build list.

Sort of the best of both worlds for me.

I chose to honor him in the FF to RC Contest going on in the Balsa Builders Forum by choosing to modify Mr. Stahl's Blackburn Skua (Apr 1942 MAN).

Build thread, here.

Greetings All

Sad to hear of Mr Stahls' passing. A great designer. have not built any of his rubber designs but my flying buddy Ron scaled up his Ryan Navion and we built it as a geared Speed 400 powered 3 channel RC plane. A great flyer. Have heard of a number of people making RC versions of some of his plans, they all seem to fly well.

A picture of the Navion is attached.

It is strongly emotional for me to read of Earl Stahl's passing. He represents so much of the art and craft of our hobby of little airplanes. Each of us has his own reasons to build and fly these things, and we are all reduced when someone who gave us so much hope and anticipation dies. It's a 'for whom the bell tolls' comment for all of us. Folks, if you have some projects in mind, or some drawings you hope to turn into three dimensions, the time to do it is NOW. We cannot predict the future, and the future for any of us can extend a surprisingly brief distance. I suggest, and I hope to take my own advice, starting on that priority list of projects that each of us carries in his head. None of us will ever build everything he hopes to, but we can try to use the time available to us wisely to do those things that we think are important and not consume our time with things we soon think are irrelevant. Time's a funny thing, its passing cannot be controlled or influenced and it cannot be recovered after it's passed.

Hi all, I started another thread where we can post pictures of all of our converted Earl Stahl designs. I would welcome all to post some pictures on it.

Thanks
Jim
