Scale Reference Help: TG-5/LNR-1
Hello all.
I need help to located some articles and drawings to build an Aeronca TG-5/LNR-1. There were several very well written articles about glider pilot training in US during WWII,published in an US mass market aviation history magazine such as "Air Classics", "Wings", ???. In these article were a good many photographs and drawings of the steel tubing nose sections added on to the Aeronca O-58/L-3 to make the TG-5/LNR-1. My guess is that these magazines were published sometime about 1979-1992. My copies seem to have been the object of a massive cleaning mission of "she who must be obeyed", as none of my many year subscription copies are to be found!!! Also any other drawing resources are much welcome.. I do have the excellent Aeronca factory O-58 drawing collection, but the TG-5 is NOT documented therein. Thank you in advance. matthew http://www.aeronca.com/dwgs/ |

Sad to hear of the loss of the field. Was this a private airport? It reminds me of several of the airports I "grew up" on. Sort of a perpetual 'ramp' rat. There was a CAP unit that had 2 gliders and an engine powered winch, as well as several L-16's, a T'craft and a battered Luscombe. The TG-2 and 3 were in the air every day during Summer and Autumn. Do you know who built the TG-5 model in the picture? Anyway, I think I'll just idle awhile on the memories of the distinct hollow whistle one more felt than heard watching the TG-3 pull over the top of a loop, rolling out just above touch down on the runways' end. Me, directly beside the runway, mouth agape, jumping for joy, with winch rope ready!! Or, gaggling with the Red Tail Hawks.. Tg-2&3 also T'craft deadstick. Ah, the best of all... scent of drying Butyrate dope and dusty earth in the cooling night air as we slept under the sky. East Colfax Airport 1958--Denver.
