On the Easter weekend was held the Society of Antique Modellers Australian Championships. One of the pilots had this experience.
Aircraft - Lanzo Bomber 96" wingspan
Radio - JR 3810 XPS module
Receiver - 8 channel
Round 1 - 3 minute engine run, 10 minute total flight time - perfect score.
Round 2 - 3 minute engine run, 10 minute total flight time - perfect score.
Round 3 - 5 minute flight.
Picked up transmitter for the 4th round and realised that he hadn't screwed the antennae on - it was still in his transmission case.
When I fly all my aircraft carry altimeters. My plane recorded at about 1700 feet on the day. All the planes on that day where at about that height. That last thing he said to me as he walked away was THANK GOD WE FLY WITH XPS GEAR.

Wow... that's great!! Not a good idea to do deliberately, of course!
There are several people that have reported their results with no antennas.
