Annulus (Epp Annular Wing design)
I designed this experimental foamie for 3D slowflying in my garden. The model shown in the pictures is the second version of the prototype. She flies relatively well. Future prototypes will have further improved flying caracteristics.
The design is based on an 'annular wing' or 'ring wing'. Inherent the concept wing efficiency theoreticly should be higher than a comparable flat wing. She can fly extremely slow and hoovers well. The model is strong, compact and relatively easy to build. The prop is safely located inside the wing (at the center of gravity) so it can not cause injury. Ailerons are partialy blown by the prop for increased efficiency at low flying speed. I used 8 mm Epp sheet: 20 g/l overall and 30 g/l for ailerons and vertical fuselage. Weight is 165 g empty and 465 g ready to fly. Span is 520 mm, length 720 mm, and height is half the span (so frontal view is elliptical). The colordesign is funny, though it was never my intention to build a flying fish or shark. I ad some pictures for those who have interest.
