Schreiner/Schubeler F-86 test flight 2-1-03

Well folks, after a period longer than I can remember (over a year ) the F-86 will attempt aviation next Saturday.

Specs are as follows:
Plettenberg HP220/30/A4/S/P4, Schubeler DS51-3PH, ducting designed and provided by Daniel Schubeler, 22 x 2600 NiMh, 47" span, 44" length. Weight unknown at this time (over 6 lbs no doubt )

Motor tests indicate "adequate" power levels.

It will fly unpainted at this time and enter the paint shop if all goes well.

This is the only photo I have of this beast at this time.

That's some of that "California Grass" you 've heard about.

Temps were in the 80's for the Stuporbowl.

ETB

ETB is 11:00 plus or minus.

I too hope the weather holds for the MWE. I have a "special" surprise for Dr. Jet's Dreaded Limbo Combat.

your prototype looks like one of Flight Systems F-86 Target Drones......hated seeing that happen to so many good airplanes

Are you going to have it painted for MWE? I have confidence in your first flight being a total success. I would love to see it in San Diego.

Kelvin,

I don't know. The paint elves are still shooting clear on the A-4.

Paint Elves

The Paint Elves have been working on the F-86 lately, but MWE is only 4 days away. It may have to make it's public debut half naked!

Update on the Paint Elves

Wing is done (basic white with blue trailing edge and red "meatballs" on top, silver with orange trailing edge and red meatballs with white outlines on the bottom), fuselage has a base coat of white. The elves will probably get the orange on the bottom of the fuselage before Friday, but the blue trim and numbers probably won't be done.

It will be good enough to fly if the weather (liquid sunshine) is acceptable.

BTW, the AUW (before paint) was 7.23 pounds! Even with this rather massive weight (and size) it flew quite well.

Seems a bird that size ought to ROG. It looks nice though.

ROG

ROG would add another pound by the time you add a servo, retracts, air tank, hoses, and the structure to mount the gear. Additionally, the air intake would have to be compromised to allow room for the nose gear. As it is, there is only a small amount of room below the intake and the fuselage. I would rather have the performance and land on the belly (music wire skids).

I do have a set of Spring-Air retracts looking for a suitable home. I also have a MidiFan with an old 1409/2Y looking for a similar home.
