RG65 General Discussion / Racing

This thread is dedicated to discussion for Intl RG65 Developmental Class. If you have builds, designs, or questions regarding the class this is your thread! Post pics of your favorite boat, new boats you've seen!

2014 International Class Rules Link

At its heart this is a builders class, free plans are available at the excellent database maintained by the French RG65 Class Association :

Free Rg65 hull & sail plans database link

Recently with the advent of quality professional builders making high tech /completed boats for the Class and things are starting to heat up and competition is getting very tough!:
Mirage Missile:
MX Goth65:

Robot Ice:

Nautae Stinger A/S:

Sails Etc Argon :

I searched through RC groups for a dedicated RG65 thread , although there were several topics posted , nothing under the general heading

Ahh at last a thread for the 650mm! Thanks Chuck

Can we talk about sail servo/winch recommendations, where quality/reliability is at the top of the list? Any suggestions hardcore racers?
Thanks

Chuck - too bad you missed the "Original RG65 Discussion Site" - where it all began. Could have saved you a bunch of work and would have made much more sense (???) to incorporate all of your information along with that on this site that has posts going back to 2008 !

Unless you wanted to have a "DF One Design" site, now anyone interested gets (has) to look at two sites, in order to discuss issues of the class. Maybe start a web page for each specific design?

Note it isn't just US sailors posting on the original site - it includes interested people from all over the world.

Love all those pics of the newer designs, I have seen some of them on the water.
One of my favorite blogs on RG65s is RG Andys blog. And the German forum. Lots of building pics. His pics are nice and clear and show great detail.
Use your favorite online tranlator, unless you can read German.

I started by RG65 adventures with a home built laerke 65. Looked fancy but didn't go very well with the spindly mast and the nicely twisted wooden keel. oh and the helicopter blade rudder was almost useless for steering!! Lots of lessons learned for my next build though, and in the meantime I'm getting my thumbs in order with a DF65

I've attached a PDF of the Laerke 65 plan if anyone fancies a go.

Wingsails legal?

Great place to ask this question: Are wingsails legal under RG65 rules?

My opinion is yes, just measure all the surface area of one of the sides of the wing and let it not be more than 2250 cm2.

Oh, you should point to the spanish/english version of the 2014 rules (note some incorrect translation from spanish to english is highlighted): http://www.cvrc.cl/wp-content/upload...Rules-2014.pdf

5.3 Spars
5.3.1 All the spars must have a section smaller than a circle 1.2 cm in diameter.

We can argue about it, but the intent looks pretty clear.

Nope I didnt miss it Dick,

in fact there is only 1 forum link from RG65USA.org, care to take a wild guess at which one it is

Here let me help with this link URL

http://www.rg65usa.org/

Click on that "Forum" on the main menu and see where it goes

Just because there is a RC Group discussion group for RG65s doesn't mean that we cant all use that RC Sailingnet forum as well, the whole point is to reach out to as many people as possible, in as many different areas as possible. I post regularly on Facebook, RC Groups, yahoo, and other forums as well including RCsailing.net

FYI, just from analytics we get more people from linking to the new site from Face book and RC groups than all other sources combined.

And yes Im aware there are people from all over the world... Weve already had hits on the new website from over 30 countries before I put up the flag counter...

My goal is to get more interest in the class.... period, and people will look at Rc groups, Facebook, Rcsailing.net (the official forum for RG65 USA), Yahoo Groups etc.

I think most important reason to start this thread is that... there are MANY different boat classes being discussed in RC groups, why not have a thread dedicated to the class we all love so we can get more people interested in it?!

I have consulted with the current USA RG65 Class Secretary on our plan with the new website... not doing anything "on my own".

I know you are one of the pioneers of the class in the USA Dick, hope you continue to support our efforts in expanding the class in the States and supporting worldwide growth as well!

Hi Windward

Share whatever you like, I put a page up on my website with the various RG 65 plans I found when researching my first build. Think they are mostly from the french site you've already linked to but the more link we can get out there the better..
