I'm thinking of getting a pic pro and wanted to know what essential mods were needed. I know that a main shaft retainer is a must. I've also heard that an aluminum hub is nice also. Does the swash need the ball mod on the pic pro? Also, I'll be using a model motors 12/15/20. Which pinion would you recommend? Thanks,

Aluminum Head(or stiffen the current one)
Aluminum Hub
GWS 7.2 volt grey end bell motor for tail with 10 tooth pinion
8 tooth pinion for you motor with 3 Etech 1200 lithim polys
Shaft collar

From there just make sure your bearing is glued onto the outer and inner portions of the swash and you are set.


All I can say is use good equipment for this heli and it will fly extreamly well.

If I had to do it again from scratch I would get exactily what I said above and the following electronics:

Newest Phionex 10 controller
Schulze Slim 105He
Hacker B20-18L(but you already have a motor)
HS55 for the pitch
2x HS50 for the cyclic
Futaba GY240

The key is light and lots of HS and you will have lots of fun. I think you will really like the Pro.

thanks for all the info. I'm going to use hs-50's a gy240, the modelmotors 12/15/20, phoenix 10(newest software) and 3 e-tec li-poly 1200's

Carlo, one other question. If I get an aluminum head from PMP products, which aluminum hub works with it. It their ad, it sounds like it only works with the stock head.

The aluminum one that Warren sells will work. All you have to do is install the screws with some locktight, and sand the heads off. Just make sure that you thread the screw to fill the tapped hole in the hub, and also have enough screw so that the hole in the beaings are filled. This mod is very easy to do. JUST make sure that when a crash is about to happen, turn the throttle off(I like to use my throttle hold switch).

Just so you know I am using the metal hub with the PMP head.

Oh, and one more thing you may want to add a little dampening to the PMP head if you get it. All it takes is a thin sheet of rubber under the head cap. Just do a search and you will find this mod.

Any advice on the phoenix 10. Are you using high or low governor mode, and what kind of throttle curve. I don't think I need super rediculious head speed since i'm not ready for wild 3d yet. I was thinking around 2000rpm might be good.

Im not using the Phionex 10, I am using the Schulze 18He.

Use the Low governor mode with the medium timing setting.

I have found that my tail's holding is greatly improved when in governor mode.

Hey Carlo, if I use the tail motor you mentioned, is the gws 2 amp esc big enough or should I get a pixie 7. I can's afford a 70.00 high freq. tail esc right now. Aluminum head seems more important.

I would get a bigger ESC for the tail like a 5 amp GWS or the Pixie. The Schulze Slim 105 He is a little more than the Pixie (50 bucks shipped from Icare) and it is well worth the money. Its simply the best.

Alright so I went and did it. I ordered everything for my Pic Pro. I got the schulze controller, the aluminum head and hub, also went ahead and got a PMP one-way hub and frame stiffener. Also got the tail motor you talked about with 10 tooth pinion. This thing should be sweet. Thanks for all your help Carlo. I'll keep you posted on the progress and post some pics.
