I think the motor being recommended is a little light on power. This plane is heavy. I think a Power 10 or equivalent would be better.

Mine just arrived today, and the kit looks good after the initial unboxing. I did plan to use an E-Flite Power 10 as already had one on hand....let the build begin..

I'll be starting on it soon, as im still in the middle of my Hanger 9 P-40B build.

I did try to fit the Power 10 on the motor mount with the cowl on, and since the P10 is 8mm longer then the recommended EF Park 480 I will have to modify the mount a bit to give the proper cowl to spinner clearance.
The motor mount is adjustable for motors of less then 35mm in length....unfortunateily the P10 is 43mm....but a little modification will fix that....hopefully the rest of the build will be straight forward

The build is complete with a minor change of using an e-flite power 10, instead of a park 480. The AUW with a nanotech 2200 3S 25C is 48oz..now just the maiden awaits.
I am going to replace the supplied plastic spinner with something of a higher quality that spins true, as the wobble is just annoying...maybe even an aluminum 3 blade spinner.

dr....the build was pretty straight forward and very easy, the quality of the product is pretty good...the only thing I had to alter was the motor box/motor mount to fit the slightly longer EF power 10 instead of the shorter recommened EF park 480.

The motor box was completely different from the diagram in the instructions, but easily figured out....I only hope she flies as good as she looks....

Watch the CG

I finished mine a few days ago and was able to maiden it Thursday...I used the recommended power setup and balanced it to spec. It was a little bugger...tail heavy and underpowered...so I went home and added 2 ounces to the motorbox and went from a 12-6 prop to a 12-8 apc...this took me from 360 watts at 32 amps to 450 watts at 37.5 amps. (e flite 480 and castle ice 50 amp speed control...and yes...you can push the 480 to 40 amps with good cooling-which this plane has) I took it back out Friday and it flew much better...but still just a bit tail heavy and a bit underpowered. I have added a half an once to the cowling and I intend to try a 12-9 prop. My Christen Eagle weighs in at 49.7 oz. with the added ballast and a 2200 3 cell ready to fly. I think 500 watts is the magic number if she weighs 47 to 50 oz. The power 10 is probably a great idea. Watch the CG though...I got it to balance at the recommended 75mm CG without ballast and mine flew tail heavy...with the battery all the way forward and my speed control mounted on the motorbox just forward of where the motorbox starts. Its gonna be a sweet flying plane I think...just needs tweaking. The power 10 will add some weight to the nose but you will need more...good luck with yours

Make sure you're using the 1020 Kv version of the Park 480, EFLM1505, instead of the 910 Kv version, EFLM1500. I've seen this many times before, when the wrong version has been selected and the customer is left wondering why the airplane seems underpowered.

Thanks for mentioning that Dave...that is one of the details I forgot to mention. I am using the 1020 KV 480, but shes still a bit underpowered...however when I try the 12-9 prop I should be close to 500 watts and all will probably be well. Not so much the motor as prop selection...I was using more of a 3D prop at first and this little plane needs more speed to fly scale. You guys at Horizon may want to consider a product bulletin on the CG...she flys way better at 69mm from the top wings leading edge than at the 75mm that is called for. By the way, thanks to you guys at Horizon for bringing out another great plane...the Christen Eagle has been one of my favorite planes since childhood and up until now all the others where too big for my hanger.

Great info guys! Looking at a Motrolfly 2815-950 with a 12 x 8 on 3S for mine...waiting for the Perry swap meet to hopefully pick one up a great price.
