I don't mind carving out some wood but the extra weight is a small concern.
All but the elevator will bottom out. You'll be a lot better off using HS65MGs on the ailerons and rudder. Run them on 6 volts and they will be fine.

Love this plane!

EF Edge #2 is so sweet!
Zero coupling for KE, KE loops are a piece of cake with the suggested Torque motor running a 13x6 Xoar prop with 70amp Quantum ESC and Savox SH -2056 Super Torque servos running at 6 volts.

Needs no improvements.
She flies so much differently than my EF 48" Laser EXP, it astonishing.
As Doc sez, flying the Edge is almost like cheating... But I love it!

Ordered up the edge last night, this will be my first 48" from EF went with all stock power set up and have some HS 85's sitting around to go in it.

This ship sounds like it is going to be loads of fun.

I would recommend using one 85 in the elevator which will take a little opening up of the servo hole and going with micro servos on the rest. 65mg is recommended and savox has a couple of micros that work. If I ever do a 48"er again it will have HV servos.

Yeah, the 85 is great on the elevator but it is too tall to fit in the other openings.

I'm still running 65s and 85s in my Edges and they are fine. The HV servos are better, but the 6 volt servos are still working fine. Still, anything new I build will have HV servos.

I was skeptical of digital servos but after two of my HS65mg stopped working.
(after hundreds of flights)
I made the upgrade. Big difference in ease of hovering, like having faster reflexes.
Even on only 6V

I started to build my Edge tonight and it looks like I'm going to need to use some wood stock to build out the rudder servo slot for the rudder in order to use the 5070. Also will have to cut the slot bigger for the elevator since I'll be using the 5087. hope there is enough meat.

I used the 85 in the elevator without adding anything for nearly 700 flights. Don't know in the rudder as I used the 65mg.

You can't use an 85 on the rudder because it will bottom out on the opposite fuselage side. I suppose you could space it out, but it would look incredibly bad. The 48" Edge tends to want the battery way forward anyway if you use one 85 in the tail, and in my experience the 65MG holds up really well in it's application here.

The 85 though, is still pretty close to bulletproof in these planes.

I used three washers under the rudder servo and that did it.

Check my blog article on installing the HS85. Remember that the plane in the article is the Extra, and the Edge has it's elevator servo on the opposite side.

Thanks. I cut some ply and it worked perfect today. There was also enough meat for the 5087 on the elevator.

Motor box ordered, 6-8 week wait for it to get to Aerobertics

Going to rebuild it properly, and reinforce it. Last time I used hot glue and super glue, of which I realise now are both utterly useless for the repair I did initially. It also seems the superglue I have has gone crap, used in a few other applications, and the bond broke within a couple of weeks!!

Anyway, onwards and upwards. Tempted by a 70"+ over the summer
