4m+ Minimoa ARF

Dave Prattley has got in a batch (Gaggle?) of Minimoa's.

http://www.airstrike.com.au/index.htm

They are not on the website yet, but he has them, trust me.

There are 2 versions. The baby, which I got at 4.3m (maybe larger, keep reading) and the big girl at 5m+. It was supposed to be 5.2m but it turns out that the Chinese can't read a tape measure and/or forgot to include the fuselage width and it's actually closer to 5.7m It'll be interesting to see what mine measures out to.

Best bit? Prices. 4.3m is $850AUD. 5.7m is just a gnats whisker under $1000.

It's too late to unwrap and get more photos. You'll have to wait until after Camperdown.

I am pretty sure these are the same models seen at the JR Aerotow last June, Hobby-Lobby was showing them, they look to be 1/3.5 and 1/3 scale, the wings are in 4 pieces, a rather interesting wing joiner system is used, with a little TLC, can be a nice model, and what a deal!

Hi Guys - These are brought in by Model flight. The one Rod W has purchased looks like they used the CNC Modellbautechnik drawings to make the laser cut parts - if it has used this design, then it should be a great structure... but the covering is said to be a little average.

You got to wonder what they pay their employees, when they can market a
hand-built ARF like this one for those prices.....

Not very much......which would lead one to question the quality of the construction....not to mention that the plane is a direct rip off of the CNC Modelbau kit.....right down to the same wing joiner system. They also didn't translate the instructions very well.....your suppose to remove the formers in the cockpit once that area is sheeted. Another thing that comes to mind....the Chinese are not well known for their quality of steel........that BIG wing rides on that steel joiner system....at the least I would replace all the nuts and bolts with grade 8 hardware. I want to hear some flight reports back on them before going forward....but your right.....for the price...which seams to be in US dollars.....$398!! Even if shipping is $200....the CNC kit alone is around $1650 US and you have to build it!
