New wood FPV Mini H

So a couple months ago I sat down and started scratching out some plans for a mini H quad for FPV. I wanted it to carry all my FPV gear plus a GoPro and look good while doing it. I wanted it to take decent jello free video, so I made the bottom section dirty, separated with anti vibration balls.

After getting this thing up and running I biffed it while getting it tuned and broke my vtx, this put me out of business for a few weeks. Just got the new vtx and got it up and running again.

Even though some of the commercial frames look and perform awesome I am cheap and like to do things myself. Now, this is no seat of the pants flying but fun none the less.

Mini H quad tuned (6 min 7 sec)

Plans:

Specs:

254mm motor to motor diagonal
216mm Long
63.5mm wide
AUW 708 grams (Porker)

Gear I used:

1/8th inch Birch plywood
Epoxy Resin

HK 328p Multiwii
Ready to Fly Quads F-20 Fire Red ESC (Overkill)
Emax MT 1806 2280 Kv
HQ Props 5x4
3s 2200 Lipo
ImmersionRC 5.8 gHz 600 mw vtx
GoPro Live out video cable

Plans scratched out on plywood and coated with epoxy resin.

Parts cut out and mocked together

Parts painted Faux Carbon Fiber

Assembled

All in all I am very pleased with the way this little quad turned out. Every time I fly it, I can't help but have a big grin on my face.

Look and flys good.
Those Emax MT 1806 2280 Kv motors and HQ 5x4 Props seem to work well.

They really do, I first tried the GF 5030's and they were pretty doggy.

Definitely gives it some additional strength, and also makes it look nice for paint Depending on how many coats you do, it does add additional weight.

How did you attach the motor to the wood? Did you just buy some longer screws to go through the wood? Did you use a nail? how did you do it?

I made a paper template of the mounting holes then drilled them out. I used some longer screws I found in my flight box. An X type mount would be a heck of a lot easier.

whats the name of the epoxy resin and where did you buy it? I'm looking for a way to cut my plywood without all the splinters. Thanks

And the epoxy definitely helps with that. I used 3m fiberglass resin which I got at lowes. A quart lasts a long time on these little projects. I used a foam paint brush to spread the resin. I did two coats, after it dried I sanded smooth.
