Cool
90MM Lander MIG-17?

Sine there seem to be a ton of foamie threads here, well here is another. A PC Coated MIG-17 now on the HK site, 90MM and it would appear to be an RC Lander design? At least the belly intake, metal fan and the landing gear make it look like a Lander?

Really? The up front cost is all of the components. It includes all the servos, ESC, Motor, Fan, retracts etc, all installed and ready to go. Plus it has the PC Coating (Plastic coating) to protect the foam, the paint in uder the plastic, so scratches on the body will not ruin the paint job.

Most ppl aren't going to shell out $570 plus shipping for a foam edf(even if plastic coated).
Take for example the Mig 15 from Fly Fly. Cost of plane is $160(usa warehouse). Ppl can stomach that and then buy components as they can fit the budget.

But all told, a Fly Fly 90mm plane can be built for less money then that mig17.
Another example is the Exceed-Rc F-86 90mm Arf at $330. All servos, motor, esc come with the plane...retracts and door sequencer as well.

I bought the mig15, 10 metal gear servos, motor, esc and retracts for under $400 from hobbyking.

Yep..plastic coating is nice, but can be replicated quite easily.

Are there a re few ppl that might pay for the coolness of a plastic coated plane? Probably a couple and that's why there's only 2 available on HK.

I have the non-PC version of the Lander MIG 17 running on 6S. Additional weight from PC would not be of advantage in that setup. I also think it is overpriced compared to other options available.

Since this is the 90mm version, I don't think you are comparing the same airframe.

For me, I have come to the conclusion that the hardware on many of these "ready to fly" are not the best or ( near) of quality. Short service life.

Not on this one, the included electronics are quite decent, hence the rather steep price..

I had a PC version. After one go around it crashed due to the cheap way the servos/rods/clevises are installed. The 90mm version was slow. I kept the landing gear which are very well put together. My local hobby shop was trying to sell them at $299 a pop but this was about a year ago I think. Could be it did not come with ESC or fan. Mine was red.

I use the nose gear in my CMP BAe Hawk.

I did hear the servos were junk with this one. I'm guessing the cs9012 would sound good in this one and be quite a bit lighter than the heavy landers fans.

I went to the HK site and saw the glass MiG15 in 90mm. $150.00. Since it is pretty similar to the untrained eye to the 19, the way I think i would get a glass MiG 15 and put my own hardware I have sitting around that I look for deals on.

I basically did the same thing...except I got the foam 90mm mig15 that HK has(its a fly fly/htg). The glass version has to be modified to fit retracts as far as I know.
