SplashPipe - a scratchbuilt waterproof PVC quad

Video:

20130519112807 (0 min 0 sec)

I haven't documented a build yet so I thought I'd show my process on this rig. I've accrued most of the necessary pieces, enough to get started at least.

52mm vacuum pipe trimmed to accommodate the 3/4" (22mm od) pvc water pipe:

Motor mounts being formed:

Main body and booms, trued and glued:

Bare frame weighs 310g, time to start designing the multiwii pcb. Updates to follow.

That's awesome. I like how the motor mounts were formed. Just some heat and clamps?

@Jirv - yep, heat and clamps.

@Blackrat - homemade multiwii with a GY-86 10dof IMU and everything is going in the tube.

2" built-in vacuum pipe and 3/4" potable water pipe. If either, both, or neither is schedule 20 I couldn't say.

Looks Good. I saw another person try PVC and the weight was just too much... what does this frame weight?

@jack - the actual tools were an xacto and dremel, the template I produced using this site: http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-...e-Notcher.html
@trickedout - 310g so far.

310g. Not too bad, not great, but certainly not a heavy pig. That's why I asked about schedule 20. Plus the wall thickness of the main body looks like 20.

Well, according to a pipe chart the main body would be closest to 5s and the booms 10s.

That was genius drilling an off center chord line for maximum surface for the glue.

It's white, so even direct sunlight in lower latitudes probably will not raise the surface temp, at most, more than 30F above ambient. However, if it was to be painted flat black, that would indeed get to a surface temp to soften.
