The problem with these aircraft specfically is the US gov't paid for them to be transferred to the Afghans. It actually takes an act of Congress to take them off the USAF roster and offer them to an outside vendor to resell them on the open market. It also requires agreement from the Afghan gov't that they don't want them first. Then the USAF has to spend a lot of money to ship them home before they can strike them from the roster. Congress has not written an authorization bill to allow the AF to transfer aircraft here in the states between bases/squadrons for the last year and a half. Not much chance of them authorizing the expenditure to bring these home, just like the up to 10K MRAP and other vehicles that will now rust away in Afghanistan and Iraq since it's cheaper to leave them than to ship them anywhere.
